Hi I'm Dave

I'm a husband and father of five working to support a family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I guess you could say I am part of the grind that many of us experience. I am a husband and father of five trying to provide for my family. I spend my days working for a large bank while trying to continually better my situation in my professional, personal, and spiritual life. I work to live, not live to work. My family is what motivates me and keeps me grounded. The Gospel keeps me centered and helps me become better in every aspect of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

While I was born into a family that was Mormon, I at some point had to decide for myself if this was a life choice that I was wanting, and willing to continue with. While in high school I began to see the choices that many were making, choices that I was also faced with. Knowing individuals that had chosen varying directions I was able to see what I did and did not want in my life. I knew that I wanted a life that was free of binding influences, things that would keep me from the freedoms of happiness and love. The Gospel of Jesus Christ asks a great deal of us, but in the end it is those same requests that set us free of the many binding influences that we come across. Many find it odd that I choose not to drink, smoke, or engage in premarital relations. But in doing so I have been able to stay clear of many of bonds that these practices create and can develop into. In the Gospel i have found great peace of why I am here on earth, where I was before, and where I will be going. I guess you can say it has given me direction and purpose, and peace in doing so. Bottom line is that it makes me happy, and not in a fleeting way but rather true happiness and the Lord intended. Happiness that is eternal in nature. I have come to know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and elder brother, and that he knows and loves me.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith in everything I do. It is not a Sunday only faith but is in every part of my life. It helps define who i am. It gives me the opportunity to work with youth groups in the community and assist others in time of need. It teaches me to be aware of others and live the age old golden rule, to do unto others and you would have others do unto you. But at the same time it teaches and helps me to stand for what is right. To not idly stand by while others act in a way that is contrary to what i feel is right. I try to live as Christ would have me. My faith brings hope. Hope that tomorrow will be better than today. That i will be better tomorrow that i am today.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Dave
All that i have comes from my Father in heaven. It is but a gift and something i am given stewardship over. For me to return 10% of my income is simply giving back a portion of what is not mine. I know that it helps in building the kingdom of God on earth. It is the least i can do. At times the additional income would be helpful. But it in no way is equal to the blessings that come from living the commandment of tithing. Show more Show less
