Hi I'm Carlos

I spent my whole childhood living near the beach, and after serving mission in California, I'm studying to be an Engineer.

About Me

I'm constantly out and about with friends and family if not at school or work. I have a million hobbies, from puzzles to comic books, dungeons and dragons to star wars, hiking to rock concerts. My parents divorced when I was about eleven, and I have had plenty of opportunity to learn that the people in your life are important, and are there for a reason. My parents both taught me that hard work and integrity go a long way, and even though most of my family has gone through times of inactivity and hardship, their examples have helped me prepare for life and have strengthened my resolve to follow God.

Why I am a Mormon

Living far outside of Utah, early on I had the chance to meet people of different faiths and creeds. As I made friends with people who didn't believe in God, didn't keep His commandments, or even simply followed Him in a different way, I had to quickly come to an understanding of what it was that I believed. I've always felt deeply in my heart that I have a Father in Heaven and a Savior, Jesus Christ, both whom love me very much. This was ingrained in me for as far back as I can remember. The real struggle for me came in believing that Joseph Smith could have been a prophet, and that the Book of Mormon was truly the word of God. As I listened to the talks given by modern prophets and apostles, it was easy for me to understand the need we have today for divine guidance, but it wasn't until I read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know for myself of it's truthfulness that I was sure it was a true book of scripture. The simple and sweet feeling of peace I felt as I prayed has carried with me throughout my life as I have made conscious decisions to stay near to the Lord, and do His will. As I have felt that small witness during church meetings, while working in church callings, and while reading the Book of Mormon, it has continuously built my faith in Jesus Christ and my willingness to be obedient in everything He asks me.

How I live my faith

As a disciple of Christ, I do my best to treat everyone I meet with kindness and acceptance. I feel like the best thing I can do is keep myself spiritually clean and worthy to be used as an instrument in God's hands when He needs me. A lot of the time it's simple things, like sending a "Scripture of the Week" to my friends, but often enough when I do a simple thing like that, I find someone who needed words of comfort and encouragement. If we follow the counsel to clean our inner vessel, to repent and come unto the Lord, we will be ready in the moments that He calls for us to labor. I couldn't count the number of times that, as a full-time missionary, the Lord put me in the exact place and time that help was needed. He loves His children, and we can be His hands to bless and uplift them.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Carlos
While I lived in the Bible Belt of the United States, I had a lot of good friends question me about my belief in the Holy Bible. Let me be very clear I LOVE the Old and New Testaments of Jesus Christ, and I actually have a hard time understanding how some people will toss aside the Old Testament as invalid or obsolete. My understanding of God has grown incredibly since I took the time to first read the Bible cover to cover. There are great examples, like the diligence of King David, who, every time before he went to battle, prayed and asked the Lord if he should go forward with his plans. Today, with making choices about college majors, finding a wife, buying a house, obtaining a job, and keeping myself from sin- in all of my battles, I should follow David's example and ask in faith for guidance. God has had a very personal relationship with Biblical figures, and after studying their stories, I can trust that Heavenly Father is eager and anxious to have a personal relationship with me.
