Hi I'm Steven

I grew up in Idaho. As a youth I miraculously survived the great Teton Dam disaster. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in a small town in southeast Idaho. Early in my life I had several experiences where I very well could have died. One occurred when I was a boy. Me, my brother and some friends had planned a day of fishing on the Teton River but our parents wouldn't let us go until our chores were done. We quickly went to work to complete them, but soon ran into problems that delayed our departure. After a delay we were finally ready to leave, when suddenly the City Fire Sirens sounded and police began going door to door informing people the Teton Dam had broke and a 16-18 foot wall of water was rushing towards our town destroying everything in its path. Had we not been delayed we most certainly would have been fishing on the river and had been swept away by the massive flood. From that and other experiences I've learned that life is precious and what we do with our time here on Earth is most important. And while I've not always done as I should, I have tried to learn from my mistakes and make the most out of life. I've come a long ways from those days growing up surrounded by the potato fields of rural southeast Idaho. Now I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart, am the father of seven amazing children and have the privilege of working in the high tech wireless telecom industry. Life hasn't always been easy, but with faith in God, a supportive companion and love of family and friends it sure has been worth it.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's church once again established upon the earth. I have studied the Bible, read the Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ, and prayed to my Father in Heaven to know of its truthfulness. And by the power of the Holy Spirit I have received a personal witness that the Book of Mormon is true, that Joseph Smith Jr. was called by God to be a Prophet in these latter-days to restore His church once again upon the earth in its fulness. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It has helped me to be a better person in every facet and aspect of my life. I'm a better father, husband, neighbor, citizen, employee and friend to those I meet because the gospel teaches me that we are all children of a loving Father in Heaven. And as Gods children we are commanded to, "Love one another, even as I have loved you." (John 13:34) I haven't always done as I should, but I know that though the atonement of Jesus Christ all Mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. What an amazing gift our Father in Heaven has given us through His Son Jesus Christ. I am so thankful for the Atonement and the opportunity it offers us to repent and be forgiven of our sins. God truly loves His children and speaks to the world today through living Prophets. Of this I bear witness in the name of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith day-by-day in simple acts of kindness. Sometimes I fall short, but when I do I get back up again knowing God will not forsake me so long as I do not give up on myself. I believe God expects a lot from those who profess to follow him. Jesus Himself commanded, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." He knew we would not attain perfection in this life, never-the-less He gave us this commandment making it clear what we are striving for. Life is full of challenges and difficulties, but also periods of happiness and joy. My faith helps me through this life. It gives me strength when I am weak, lifts me up when I am down, humbles me when I am proud and in time brings healing and understanding. My faith is my North Star, my one true compass that will lead me home again to the place where I belong.
