Hi I'm Merella

I grew up in a small village in Northwest Arctic Alaska. I come from a multicultural background. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small city located 33 miles above the Arctic Circle in Northwest Arctic Alaska. I graduated from college in 2011 and currently live in California with my husband. I love traveling and learning about different languages and cultures. I also love art and film, reading and writing, and the Great Outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a Mormon because I received a witness that this is Christ's true church, restored on the earth again today in modern times. I received this witness by interacting with other members of the Church and by reading the Book of Mormon, which is another testament of Christ. I was in high school when I first came across the Book of Mormon, and at the time I had a lot of questions about my purpose in life and how I could have a happier family. At school I was faced with peer pressure to accept lifestyles that I didn't agree with, but at the same time I wanted to be accepted by friends. Overall, I wanted to find more balance in my life. Because I was raised Catholic, I learned a lot of good principles from the Bible and enjoyed attending church, but I still had a lot of unanswered questions. For example, my grandmother and other family members had passed away recently and I wanted to know if I would see them again. I was also confused about why a lot of churches argued with each other and fought about doctrine. I wanted going to church and believing in God to be simple, but I was overwhelmed about what to believe and which church was right. The Book of Mormon helped me understand who I am and how I can find happiness in this life. It is another testament of Christ, and was written by prophets who were called of God in another part of the world. It supports the Bible in teaching us of Christ's gospel and His mission to act as our Savior. I've been a member of this church since 2002. Gaining a testimony of the Book of Mormon led me to serve a mission for my church, complete my college education, and start a family. It helps me to live a good life and find balance in an uncertain world. I continue to follow its teachings because I know that this is Christ's true church. Knowing that this is the true church brings a lot of peace and happiness into my life and helps me feel confident every day.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others. I love to help people out whenever I can. Serving others can be as simple as holding open a door for someone or sharing a smile and making conversation with someone who looks like they're having a bad day. I believe it's important to serve because it helps me become a better person and brings joy into others' lives.
