Hi I'm Kathy

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints!

About Me

I am a wife and a mother to 2 daughters and a son. I am also a birth and postpartum doula, a lactation consultant, and a childbirth educator. I love photography and organic gardening, and eco-friendly living! I also enjoy cooking real, whole foods for my family! I have a passion for music and enjoy live music as often as possible, which includes singing with my children or listening to them sing to me! I enjoy learning about other cultures, their people, their food, their customs, and their beliefs, and someday I hope to travel the world more thoroughly!

Why I am a Mormon

Though I grew up in the church, I have a story all my own about accepting the gospel. To me, my life never feels right when I am not living its principles. I am happiest and most grounded when I exercise faith and Choose The Right! Growing up, my mother was the only faithful member of the church in my family. She converted sometime after meeting my father, as his family were members, but my father and his family have chosen different paths. I've seen the destruction and heartache caused by selfish acts, and I understand deeply how our Heavenly Father loves us and will bless our lives even in the face of terrible loss, heartache, and being "the least of these". I've been blessed by members of the church who understood our Heavenly Father's plan and reached out to those in need! I have felt the Spirit testify to me of the truth of the gospel.

How I live my faith

I serve my ward as an Activity Days leader for the 8- and 9-year-old girls. I also serve the Relief Society as a Visiting Teacher and by preparing lessons, activities, and refreshments to be used by the Priesthood for nurseries on Relief Society nights. In my home I serve my family in all the traditional ways, and I pray with and for my husband and children. We read the scriptures and have Family Home Evenings. We look for opportunities to serve our neighbors and community as a family. We practice good stewardship over our blessings, including the planet we were given to live on and be blessed by. In the community I use my talents to serve those in need. I volunteer at urban child institutes to teach childbirth classes to urban mothers. I also step in as a coach during labor sometimes and help new mothers learn to care for their babies. I often take pictures for those families because they might not otherwise be able to preserve those memories. I often take along baskets of produce straight out of the garden to share with families who don't have access to fresh produce. I also LOVE to visit with the elderly in their homes or in a nursing facility. They have the best stories to tell, and they just want to share them, so I always come away feeling more like the one who has been served. I try always to be the person I needed when I was a young child and a young adult with nowhere else to turn, and I purpose every day to teach my children to be people who make a difference in the world, even if it's only in one person's heart at a time.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Kathy
My very simple understanding and explanation of grace has always been that grace has saved us all, in that we all have life eternal because of Christ's atonement. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we believe that there are degrees of glory, and that our works here on earth will determine our exaltation. Grace=salvation. Works=exaltation.
