Hi I'm Ruth

I am a seventy-nine year old sixth generation Mormon and grandmother of fifteen, with a desire to share whatever wisdom I have.

About Me

I was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Speech and Public Speaking, and some training in theater. Before marriage I served an LDS mission in Hawaii. After raising my six children I served another Mission in California, and then a Humanitarian Mission in Thailand a year later. I love to travel, have visited five of the continents, been north of the Arctic Circle, stood on the Equator, and went from "Pollywog" to "Shellback" during a tour of the Galapagos. Most of all I loved visiting Israel. Though I took oil painting classes, and have a few paintings I feel good about, I am not a threat to Grandma Moses. I hope to pick it up again some day. I love to read, work in the garden, do handyman tasks, and would still hike if I could.

Why I am a Mormon

Though born of faithful LDS parents, I chose to learn the truth for myself. I was converted to the truthfulness of the gospel and the Church while still young through the teachings of my parents, the programs of the Church, and the words of the Prophet and Apostles, accompanied by personal study and prayer validated by the Holy Ghost, subsequently enhanced by life experiences. My conversion has deepened as my understanding has increased. The Savior's words ". . .by their fruits ye shall know them . . ," caught my attention as a child, and has been a faithful guide ever since. The fact that not all LDS are faithful does not negate any of the truths, nor my knowledge that they are true.

How I live my faith

I was given the ability to teach and I first taught in Junior Sunday School as a teenager (a program incorporated into Primary in 1980) and numerous times in the children, youth and adult programs separate from our main worship service, as well as assisting in administration of those programs. As mentioned above, I served three full time missions for the Church which was at mine or my family's expense. I do proxy "Temple Work" regularly and I know those ordinances are true. From the time my children started school until the youngest graduated I served in the PTA. I was also recruited to serve on several School District committees, spent five years as a Girl Scout Leader and Consultant, was a board member of a charitable fund raising organization, and served on a government advisory committee among other community activities.
