Hi I'm Arthur

I was a Police officer for 30+ years. Christ has directly saved my life. He is my Lord and my Redeemer and I am his disciple.

About Me

I am a retired police officer. I worked 30+ years as a street cop and a field supervisor. I am married to my eteranl companion and have four wonderful children. I have been blessed since my youth with a fantastic relationship with my Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ. Their hands have always been in my life, guiding me, protecting me and holding me up in the most trying of circumstances. There has been of course the sweet presence of the comforter or Holy Ghost/Spirit in my life but this is not all. I have literally been saved physically from extreme danger and death by their direct intervention during the course of my life. I have had a full and active life. I was a collegate half miler, I have two college degrees, I speak fluent Japanese and some Russian. I water ski, camp and love the outdoors. I love science fiction, movies, reading, building furniture, quilting, sewing, writing fiction and humorous stories and I have made award winning Peanut Brittle for thirty years. My wife and I were awarded the Catholic Community Services Volunteer of the year award for working 9 years in local soup kitchen. We volunteer for anything it seems, working at the high school games, in scouting, local elections, community events, and sporting events. We have faced hardships and trials as anyone does and have endured and overcome things we never thought possible, all with the help of the Lord. I am serving with my wife on our third full time mission for the Church.

Why I am a Mormon

Tongue in cheek, I asked myself as a child if I was blessed to be born into a family that already possessed the gospel because of something good I did in the pre-existence or if I have been blessed because the Lord knew I would never find it on my own. In reality I don't know. One thought pre-supposes a superior good and the other presupposes an inferior intellect. Neither is correct. What I do know is that I, like every man or woman has had to, came to a point where I questioned if what I believed was true or not. I studied a wide range of comparative religions, I studied other faiths, and I have read from holy texts of many faiths. Without going into detail here I had to struggle intellectually with my own bias, study and intellectual examinations. I have come to a clear and resolute intellectual understanding of this gospel as being that of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God and my Savior. But as Hugh B. Brown so eloquently said, "Under girding and overarching all the rest" I know that this is Jesus Christ's church. Restored by Jesus Christ himself. With power and authority of his holy Priesthood. I know by the sweet revealation of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the head of this church. He is my Lord and my Redeemer. I can not deny it, This I know. God is Love. I have come to know this deeply and profoundly. It is not quenchable nor is limited in anyway. His will is love. His purpose is love. His existance is love. A prophet recorded his eternal purpose as "This is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man". I love the word Edify. This is an attribute of God. To lift, to purify, to make holy. If there be any weakness in my life it is mine not his, it is my hope and desire to live worthy of his great love, his unending kindness and his unfailing companionship. I hope one day he will say to me, "Well done thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the rest of your Lord."

How I live my faith

My wife and I are serving as volunteer missionaries for the Church in the Vancouver Canada Mission. We get no compensation, spend our own money and serve with joy and wonder. As a young missionary of 19 in Japan I came to know that "when ye are in the service of your fellow man ye are only in the service of your God". Because of this I have tried to focus my life and that of my family on service to our fellow man. Our spare time was spent volunteering for church, community, athletic, youth and senior citizen needs. My career in law enforcement was chosen so that I could serve (certainly not to get rich Hahahaha) my fellow man. As missionaries we are working with young single people 18-31 as they make life time decisions and enter into the adult career or life paths. Counseling with these young peoples is so important to help them focus on what there goal should be. We try to help them understand what Christ meant about laying up for themselves treasures in heaven. We try to teach them that if it won't matter in a billion years from now it doesn't matter now. Money, worldly possesions and "things" just won't exist anymore so focus on what will. What will continue is your knowledge, experience and relationships. Those you can take with you. Love will continue. Families will continue. Friendships will continue. The legacy of kindness you create will last long past the days of sports glory, financial success or worldly fame. God has promised he will take care of our worldly needs if we focus on love, kindness and service to others. I refer any reader to 1st Corinthians, chapter 13. Charity is the pure love of Christ. Develop this and you will find joy.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Arthur
I have been blessed to learn Japanese in my life time. I am fluent enough to read and write in Japanese Kanji or Chinese characters. I took it upon myself to read the Book of Mormon in Japanese and I have read it three times cover to cover. Each time I have been amazed at the "change in voice" I have found each time a new writer or recorder would begin. The word usage changes, the style of writing, the syntax and grammer change. This book was not written by one man or even a dozen men cooperating to write a fiction. It is what it purports to be. It is a record of an ancient people and their dealings with God and Jesus Christ over a thousand year history. Many ancient prophets of God recorded their revelations and testimonies of the Savior. It is the voice from the dust prophsied from the biblical record that would come forth and testify that Jesus is the Christ. I know you can get closer to Christ by reading this book. In English I have taken a Book of Mormon and highlighted in red every reference to the savior. Nearly every page speaks of Christ and his mission to bring us back to God. The central character of this book is Jesus Christ and his atonement for all mankind. for it speaks of Christ, tesifies of Christ, and prophsies of Christ and to who we can look for salvation and redemption. I love the Book of Mormon as much as my Bible. Why wouldn't you want to know more of Christ if he gave it to you. He did me and I bless his name for it. Show more Show less
