Hi I'm Michelle

I'm a mother of five boys. I love chocolate. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I met my sweetheart the Christmas Eve of my senior year, and told my mom I'd marry him after just one date. She didn't believe me! We married two years later, and struggled through university as married students. I became a Medical Laboratory Technologist; my husband completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography. I've never worked as a Lab Tech; he's never worked in the field of Geography. I currently work from home full time as an independent rep for an essential oil company; my husband received a second Bachelor of Arts degree and works as a music teacher in an elementary school. We have five boys. Our world revolves around them, most days. When it doesn`t, my nine-year-old makes sure I don`t forget. I love to bake. I have a beautiful vegetable garden in my back yard, as well as one in the front nestled within the flowers; I share that one with the neighbourhood. I love to learn new skills, and find a creative spirit kicking and squirming its way out every few months if I don`t indulge it in some way. I love to serve. I enjoy exercising (weights) and hiking. I`m a total nerd who loves to research, plan, and organize just about anything. (I`m not always so good at following through with those plans!) Our family loves to camp and travel. We thrive on new experiences, and are always looking forward to our next adventure!

Why I am a Mormon

As a child I didn't attend church, although I loved to read an Illustrated Children`s Bible we had in the house. In my teenage years, I decided that religion was for weak people who needed a crutch. I was quite outspoken as an atheist around my friends. When I was 17, I met my future husband. His brothers (also in my high school) had a reputation for treating girls with respect, so even though he was 5 years older than me, I figured he`d be safe to go out on a date with. He was home from university for Christmas vacation when we met, so we wrote letters over the next few months, and he sent me a couple tapes to listen to of him goofing off with some friends. He never used foul language, and encouraged me to always do and be my best. He was kind to others -- including his younger siblings (!!). He was patient towards frustrating people. He made me laugh. I knew this was the kind of man I wanted to marry some day. I knew that church was a part of his life, so when he was home for the summer and invited me to go to church with him, I agreed. On my very first visit, the Spirit was very strong. I didn`t know what it was at the time, but I felt a warmness and love all around me. I wanted to feel it again. And -- surprisingly -- I wanted to go back. The next week at church I continued to feel that warm feeling, like I was being hugged. My sweetheart gave me the first missionary discussion, and we watched a movie, `Heavenly Father`s Plan`. Afterwards, he explained that that feeling that I`d been having was actually the Holy Ghost, or the Spirit, speaking to me. I was shocked, and suddenly overwhelmed with the feeling of Heavenly Father`s love for me. This was the `proof` I`d been waiting for. Over the next few weeks, I experimented and found I couldn`t force this feeling, or bring it about when I wanted to -- it seemed to come about or leave of it`s own free will. It carried a message that would change my life forever -- that I had a Heavenly Father who loved me.

How I live my faith

I love to serve, and enjoy 'change'! Heavenly Father knows this about me, and so I often have a new service challenge every one-two years. Currently, I'm an assistant in the Cub Scout program. I've been in and out of this service calling for the past 14 years, which has been great as my boys grew up. We have a really great time learning and playing with the boys. This year we'll be learning how to be spies, and spending time painting and developing our artistic talents. Also -- my very favorite -- we're exploring our natural world while hiking and learning about native plants (identifying, edibility, and medicinal uses), and animals. I also play the piano for the ladies' class, visit several gals at church each month to give them an uplifting message and a smile, and I'm a Block Watch captain for my neighbourhood. When I have time, I enjoy baking and bringing treats to friends I love and families in need of a smile.
