Hi I'm Jan

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a single member of the church and a convert. My immediate and close extended family are not members. I became a member in 1979 when I was 24 yrs. old. I work with special needs students at a Jr. High. I am working towards a Masters in Special Education and hope to be teaching soon in hopes of helping my students reach their potential. I love going to the temple. I love photography, reading, going to appropriate movies and doing genealogy. I love my extended family, spending time with friends and exploring the beauty of this state.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised Pentecostal but when I heard the message of the church, it made me realize there was more to the Gospel of Jesus Christ then I had been taught. I had been given a great foundation from my parents but knew there was more. I believe that the Church of Latter-day Saints is the true church of our Heavenly Father and that Jesus the Christ is His Son and our path back to our home in heaven. I know in my heart this church is true and it has been confirmed to me through special, sacred things that have happened to me in my life. I have no doubt that this is the only church that provides us the road back to eternal life. I believe in our prophets and believe they are ordained of Heavenly Father to help us, strengthen us and lead us.

How I live my faith

It has not always been easy to live the Gospel for me and there have been a couple of inactive periods in my life. I am so grateful for the love and forgiveness of our Heavenly Father. I now realize that nothing is worth my membership in the church. I live grateful for the many blessings in my life. I am in an awesome ward where service and love for each other is prominent. I try to go to the temple on a regular basis. I am on the Relief Society Activities Committee and enjoy planning special activities for the women of our ward. I taught Primary for many years, have been a teacher in Relief Society and the secretary the in Relief Society Presidency as well. I am a visiting teacher and enjoy visiting with the sisters. I am grateful for a church who remembers all it's members and for the programs we have been given to increase our knowledge, service and missionary work. I love to serve and hope to one day work in the temple.

Are Mormons Christians?

Jan
I grew up not knowing much about Mormons, but remember going to a Mormon church one time with a neighborhood friend. I grew up in the Pentecostal Church, a Christian and Evangelical church. My best friend, who is Mormon, introduced me to the missionaries in my 20's and because of the way I was raised, I insisted the missionaries teach me about the Mormon church from the Bible. I was pleasantly and gratefully surprised when they alleviated my fears about what Mormons actually believe. We are a Christian church in every sense of the word. Jesus Christ is the foundation of this church just as He was in the church that I grew up in but there was so much more that I have learned about my Savior being a member in His church than I ever did in my childhood church. He died for us, He rose for us and He is our Savior and Redeemer. I live my life grateful that I know that He atoned for my sins and because of Him, I shall see my Heavenly Father again if I live continually basing my life on the example of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is another testament to His life and why He was sent here for us. My mom, not being a member and worried about my salvation, asked me one time if I still believed in Jesus as my Savior. I told her that I believed in Him more, after joining the Mormon Church, than I ever had in my life. I can testify to you that Mormons are Christians and I know that this is true without a doubt in my heart! Show more Show less
