Hi I'm Alan

I grew up in Western Colorado, served my country in the US Army and currently have 4 kids with my wife and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of four children, three of them are teenagers. I have an amazing wife that is the "glue" of our family keeping us together and to all our appointments. We have had many twists and turns during our almost twenty years of marriage. I promised her that we would never have a dull moment. That has been largely true. I spent some time in the US Army where my faith was a great strength to me. I enjoyed sharing my beliefs with those whom I served with. I have always loved aircraft, spacecraft, boats, ships, motorcycles, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. I have always been curious about things and why they work. It is so fascinating to learn about new things.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents started having discussions with the LDS missionaries when I was a little baby. They were baptized into the church and all of my memories are of being a member of the church. That being said, I believe everyone has to ask what is true at some point in their life. When I was about 16 or 17 years old I knew that I needed to know for myself the truth about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I was challenged by a missionary to pray and find the truth for myself. I did pray to know if the Book of Mormon was true and I had a feeling so strong well up inside me, telling me that I knew that it was true. Well if the Book of Mormon was true then Joseph Smith had to be a real prophet of God who translated the ancient scripture and the church established through him also had to be real and true. I remember feeling in that moment much as Joseph described the feelings he had when he had seen the Father and the Son and others persecuted him for that vision. For me when that incredible feeling entered my heart I knew that it was all true. I knew that it was and I knew that God knew that I had received that answer. This moment caused me to serve a two year mission for the church which was a fabulous experience for me to see other people take the challenge to ask God what was true and to see them get the same answer I had. I now have children of my own who my wife and I teach to do the same as we did to ask God what is true and then follow that answer all the days of their lives.

How I live my faith

I serve in the church to this day. I have worked teaching the youth and being a leader in our Sunday School. I love teaching the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our faith is an everyday faith not a "Sunday-only" religion. I try to be a good follower of Christ everyday of my life. I try to help others in need. I strive to become a stronger and better dad and husband every day. Family is so important in helping us to become closer and closer together and to become more like our Savior. I am not perfect by any means, but I am attempting to right my wrongs and come a little closer each day.
