Hi I'm Joseph Gannon

I'm a Mormon, or member of the LDS Church. I served a mission in the Canada Calgary Mission for the church.

About Me

I'm a single father, struggling with being divorced. When I realized how important the Gospel is for me, I just started going regardless of my marital situation. Yes, I didn't feel comfortable at a singles ward, nor did I feel comfortable at a family ward, but I go for me, not for anyone else. I go to my meetings for the spiritual nourishment I need to get through the week. Whether you are single or married, a parent or not, there is something at the Church for everyone. There is truth, there is family, there is the feeling of home. Outside of church meetings, I enjoy reading, writing, singing, cooking, the outdoors (camping, hiking, fishing when I catch something). I have a desire to help others. I work at a call center making calls for non-profit groups, raising funds for different organizations. It's great.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but even so, I still had to be converted to it. I remember when I was 14 years old, attending my first youth conference in the Church. It was during our Sunday testimony meeting when I was kicked out of my seat by the spirit of the Lord, and I was told to bear my testimony. My testimony of the Gospel was strengthened at this point. A few years previous, when I was 11 years old, I was laying in bed. A year previous, when I was 10, my 3rd brother passed away at birth of hydrocephalus. I was always taught that Matthew, my brother, was in the spirit world, preaching to other spirits who hadn't received the Gospel. As I lay in bed, I said a prayer, asking the Lord to show me a sign so I would know the truth about Matthew. After my prayer, I got an answer and it was as follows: "My son, you know I can do those things, cause your lights to turn on, strike the tree down, know the papers off your dresser, but that's not the answer you need. You need to have faith in my love for you. Only then will you know that Matthew is in the spirit world preaching to the other spirits who had not received the Gospel while on earth." This answer, simple, has impacted the choices I've made in my life. This is why I am a member of the Church, why I'm a Mormon. The Church is still led today by revelation, personal and to the whole church, just as it was in Biblical times. We have a Prophet today just as the Church did in biblical times. God is unchanging, and He loves us just as much now as He did then.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by the example I try to set. I attend my several meetings, I am a home teacher. I use the Priesthood to bless others when I am called upon to do so. I try to help others, following the Master in giving service when I see someone in need.
