Hi I'm Spencer

I'm a Mormon, and I love it.

About Me

I'm studying electrical engineering, trying to get a Masters degree. I'm married to Rachel and we are expecting two beautiful twin baby boys any day now. I am an avid hiker, mountain biker, and runner. I have finished 3 marathons, the most recent with Rachel. I also love music and have played with the university jazz orchestra for 5 years. I play trombone, piano, guitar, banjo and anything I can get my hands on. I play and sing in a ska (rock) band where we perform at various charity events and at a local comedy club. I love living life to the fullest and learning new things, reading great books, meeting new people, and being happy.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were both Mormon and brought me to church every week. I enjoyed the company of the people there and the good feelings I experienced with the Church and the teachings of Jesus. I read the Book of Mormon as a teenager and knelt and prayed and felt a very powerful feeling. I did not even realize it (I think maybe I was expecting to hear a "yes"), but that is a key point to my strong beliefs in the Church. I reflect on that experience time and again and receive strength from knowing that Heavenly Father loves me and wants me to know the truth. Later, as a missionary in the Philippines, I taught others about this experience and how they could have their own similar experience. I love being a Mormon because the Church is Jesus Christ's vehicle to teach the world (and you and me) how to be happy. As a husband and father in tough times, I feel great joy every day knowing that I have a Savior and a Father in Heaven who loves me and my family. He has sent prophets to teach us what we should do. I have never felt lost or confused, scared or vulnerable while following the counsel of the prophets. Today's prophet in President Thomas S. Monson and Heavenly Father teaches him what to teach us so that we can be happy. I have felt so much joy and many many blessings from following the commandments of God.

How I live my faith

I am actually a "ward missionary" with my wife which means we try to meet everyone at church and we go visit newcomers. It is especially fun because there are so many great people in the Church with so many different backgrounds. Its wonderful getting to know them. I also have two specific families assigned to me that I visit each month with another brother in the ward. We visit and make sure their physical and spiritual needs are met and it is a lot of fun to get to know them closely. I try to live my faith every day through prayer and scripture study with my family. I try to practice honesty and integrity in my work and school. I am striving to be the best I can be.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Spencer
As a brand new father of baby twin boys I have felt more happiness and love from my Father in Heaven than ever before. If anything were to happen to my family it would be very hard for me. Luckily, through Heavenly Father's plan I know that I can be with my family forever, no matter what difficulties might arise while in this life. I think families are important because they are the best way to be happy in this life and the best way to help each other return to our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
