Hi I'm Russ

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in California and served in the US military for 30 years moving around the world.

About Me

I am a husband, father, grandfather and am retired. I enjoy activities with my family, playing racquetball and staying busy around my neighborhood. I have spent almost half of my life on nuclear submarines travelling around the world. I have 2 children and 5 grandchildren who live close. I also enjoy woodworking and tinkering.

Why I am a Mormon

I went through the early part of my life with little or no religious involvement. At the age of 24 I met a woman whom I married and she was an inactive member of the Mormaon church. After we had children and my wife became active in the Mormon church I started investigating the church. After over 8 years of marriage I accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ and was baptized into the Mormon church. I was still in the military and was in and out frequently. I really started living the gospel after a few years and know it was the right decision. I have known more happiness and joy both inside my family and in life since living in the manner the Lord wants me to live.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through service. I have served with young men, adults, young single adults and in administration over the course of quite a few years. I always feel that I get much more out of the service I provide than I give. Seeing the growth in young people or helping someone in need is a remarkable way to serve the Lord. I am grateful every day for the opportunities I have to serve and it has helped me understand myself and life.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Russ
Since observing the principles of the Word of Wisdom I have been the beneficiary of excellent health. This is not to say that things have been perfect but by living this law when I have been ill, including a bout with cancer, I have been blessed with quicker than normal recovery and my body has been strengthened. What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Russ
As a convert to the church and having been raised as a Baptist I always believed in Jesus Christ. When I was first investigating the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I was asked to ponder and pray about the God and the Savior and about whether I believed that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. After many weeks of prayer and thinking about these two questions, and many others that came to mind, I received a testimony via inspiration from the Holy Ghost of these two questions and accepted them as fact. 36 years later that belief has been strengthened by the behavior of members that serve diligently everywhere my wife and I have lived.
