Hi I'm Phil

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student and am getting ready to graduate, so I'm gearing up for the next stage of my life. I'm the oldest of five kids, and I come from a small town of about 1,500 people. I enjoy studying cultures and languages, and I love football, basketball, soccer, ping pong, dancing, and hanging out with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I've read the Book of Mormon, and I've prayed to know whether it is true. I've received an answer through the Holy Ghost, and I know that it is a true book. The rest of my testimony comes from that foundation. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that He is our Savior, and I know this because of the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and because of personal experiences that have taught me about grace and forgiveness. I know God's love is real, and I know that He gives us commandments to guide us and help us be happy. I know that Joseph Smith was called by God to restore God's true church, and I know that we have a living prophet on the earth today. The most important things to me in this life are the relationships I have with my loved ones, and I know that we can continue enjoying these relationships after this life if we are obedient and do what God asks of us here.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by being obedient to God's commandments. James 1:27 says, "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." Serving with love and striving to become pure before God are two of the most important things we do here. I try to keep my eyes open for opportunities to reach out and help others, and if I actively do so with a prayer in my heart, God will show me what to do. Whether this means teaching a class at church or giving up my seat on the bus on my way to work, I try to serve. God's commandments help us know how to keep ourselves "unspotted from the word." Things like chastity, honesty, diligence, and working to keep my body healthy and clean are a few of the ways I can do this, and I do my best to live these values and be the type of person Jesus Christ wants me to be. I've made promises to Him through baptism and other ordinances, and keeping those promises is of utmost importance to me. Being obedient is how I keep those promises and keep myself "unspotted from the world."
