Hi I'm Brian

I'm a pre-med student, helped establish a medical clinic in Kenyan refugee camps, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student planning on going to medical school and becoming a doctor. I enjoy many outdoor activities including hiking, camping, and skiing. I also enjoy playing the piano and organ. Traveling the world and seeing different cultures is one of my favorite things. I especially love Africa and anything African.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church, but like everyone in that situation I chose for myself to continue to follow the gospel and the teachings of the Church. Through prayer and careful study of the scriptures I have come to know for myself that the Book of Mormon is true and that this is Jesus' true church in our day. Many aspects of the gospel just make sense. For example, if God spoke to and led his people in the past, then he will continue to do so today. Also, knowing that we lived before this life and were sent here for a purpose helps me in how I choose to live my life each day. Since I have chosen to study medicine, I have often been asked how I can study science and still hold on to my religious beliefs. Unlike some faiths, the Church does not view science as incompatible with its doctrine or teachings. I find that my study of medicine and the complexities of science enhances my reverence for God and his creations. I am Mormon because I have received a witness of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and the restored gospel. The teachings available help me truly understand who I am, why am I here, and who I can become more fully than anything else could. Living the gospel each day helps me find peace and happiness.

How I live my faith

For most of my life, I have helped with the music in the areas where I live. I have played the piano since I was 7 and I started playing the organ when I was a sophomore in high school. Currently, I help with my ward choir and I coordinate the music for Sunday meetings each week. Prior to that, I taught Sunday School, which is one of the things I have enjoyed doing most. I also spent two years as a missionary for the Church teaching others about the gospel. Each day, I try to help those around me and follow the example of the Savior.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith, though I can understand how someone might get that impression. We only worship God the Father and His son Jesus Christ. We know that it is only through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that we can be cleansed of sin and return to live with our Father in Heaven. Joseph Smith was a man chosen by the Lord to help restore the fulness of the Jesus Christ's gospel to the earth in our day. Joseph Smith was like any other person in the Bible or the Book of Mormon who was faithful in carrying out the work the Lord gave them, and we honor all who do so. Because the restoration of the gospel through Joseph Smith is a key point that sets Mormonism apart from many other faiths, Joseph Smith is frequently brought up by members and missionaries alike, which may lead some people to incorrectly believe that we worship him.
