Hi I'm Ruth

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I moved to Utah in 2009 from Houston, Texas shortly before our youngest son entered the Missionary Training Center to be a missionary in California. This move allowed us to live close to family which we have really enjoyed and allowed us to bring my parents here so they could live with family. I grew up as a member of the church living in many places but usually where there were not a lot of members of the church. I have had the pleasure of having many good Christian friends of other faiths who were wonderful to be around. We have six children who have married wonderful spouses in the temple of God and have made us grandparents of 9 beautiful grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised as a mormon, I sought for my own testimony as a young child growing up with faith in prayer and that I had a Heavenly Father who loved me and had a plan for me to be happy here on the earth. As challenges have come to me as they do to each of us, my faith has been strengthened as I sought help from my Heavenly Father through prayer. As I have read and studied the scriptures, they have become a part of my life and I have had many experiences that have blessed me to know that the scriptures are a special gift from a loving Heavenly Father to help us know how to live our lives here on the earth. As I have followed the words of living prophets here on the earth, my life has been blessed and I can witness that we truly have prophets on the earth today! I am thankful for the covenants that I made at baptism to love and follow the Savior and greatly appreciate the gift of the Holy Ghost given to me as a young girl of 8. I have learned over time to better tune in to be able to recognize the whisperings of the Holy Ghost and recognize that through the Holy Ghost I can be comforted, taught, warned of danger, and receive personal revelation. I am thankful to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and to understand why I am here on the earth, to know there is a life after death and to know the things I need to do in this life to prepare for the next life. I love my family and I am thankful for covenants made in the temple that can allow us to be families in the next life if we will obey the commandments of God.

How I live my faith

Membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has come with opportunities to serve others. I have had opportunities to teach children and teenagers the gospel of Jesus Christ. My husband and I served for a time in a Bishop's Storehouse in Louisiana which provided food for the needy and we served for a time in Texas in a Family History Center where members and non-members of our church could come and do genealogical research for their ancestors. Our five sons have all chosen to serve a two year mission, looking for those who would listen to their message that Jesus Christ lives and has restored His church here on the earth in our day with living prophets. A special way to serve is to go into the homes of members of the church each month and share an inspirational message and let them know of our love for them and willingness to help them in their lives. We have friends in many places of the world that have become our friends from these kind of associations. In January 2008, I was diagnosed with cancer. I had the opportunity to have a number of Priesthood blessings where two men who held the Priesthood of God, laid their hands on my head and gave me a blessing as they felt inspired through the Spirit. These were a great comfort to me as I underwent a 9 hour surgery and many months that followed were filled with chemotherapy, radiation and Dr. appointments. I was blessed through faith, prayer and Priesthood blessings to be inspired to know what choices I should make. I had a Dr. ask me how I knew to make a particular choice that was not what medical opinion recommended due to the outcome of tests and I could say that I was inspired to do that as an answer to my prayers. Without that decision my outcome would have been very different. I know that God hears and answers our prayers and that He love us and desires to bless us!!
