Hi I'm Curtis

I'm a Mormon karate champion turned physician. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

About Me

I'm a father of 4 children, ages 10-20. I studied karate (Shito-ryu) from age 13-27 and fought for the AAU-USA karate team against the Japanese in Hawaii one year. After a late start, I went back college and studied medicine and now work as a surgical pathologist (the best kept secret in the medical profession). Since I went back to school late (started at the age of 27 and finished all of my education and training up at the age of 40) I did it all with the huge support of my wife. By the end of medical school we had 3 kids. She's quite remarkable in my eyes for the sacrifices she made so that we could come down this path. I'm now 47 and also started snowboarding 4 years ago. Now, the summer is like torture as I can't wait to get back up there on the slopes with my 14 year old son and shred some powder again. Family is really important to me and I don't do much that doesn't involve them. I quit a lot of stuff I used to do before marriage and my life is richly blessed by my relationship with my sweet wife and kids.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of this church since I was 8 years old. The missionaries found my family at that time. I grew up in the Church since then but had to gain my own knowledge of the truthfulness of this amazing Gospel. I know that God lives and loves us and sent his incomparable Son to teach us and show us the way back to Him... and to die for us and suffer so that we could have hope in this world, so that we could have peace in this world and Eternal Life in the world to come. When I live my life in accordance with God's laws and the things He whispers to my soul, I can feel Him all around me and His light burns within me. I know that the Gospel and the authority of the Priesthood of God was restored to this earth by angels of God to the boy prophet, Joseph Smith Jr. I now hold that same authority and am a minister of the Gospel of Jesus though I am not paid monetarily for this. I am paid though, by an abundance of the Spirit of God that opens the eyes of my understanding and blesses the lives of my wife and children.

How I live my faith

I pray every day with my family and alone. I study the scriptures with my family and alone. Once a week we get together and have an organized family home evening where we play and have fun and do a little study as well. I strive to be anxiously engaged in a good cause and not waste what precious little time I have here in this life. I am a sunday school teacher and teach a class of new converts and those who are investigating the Church who have not yet joined. I also work as on the Stake High Council where I live and am involved with missionary work in Modesto. I visit a couple of families in our congregation every month and help them with whatever they may need help with and keep them in the ways of the Gospel. When I remember, I try to keep a prayer in my heart constantly so that I can be an instrument in God's Hands to do His work to bless the lives of my brothers and sisters. Doing this work has made my heart more tender to my fellow sojourners in this life. It is a huge blessing to see someone make major changes in their lives and draw near to God. I hope and pray that we can all improve on our time here in this life and that many of us will be together in the presence of God after this life. What a great blessing it will be to see many of my friends and colleagues in the afterlife with the image of the Messiah on their countenances.
