Hi I'm Mikko

I grew up in So Cal, but now live in the desert with my wife and five kids. I enjoy the outdoors and traveling and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a family with two brothers and three sisters 20 minutes from the beach in southern California. I spent much of my life in the water. Swimming, surfing, boogie boarding and body surfing were some of my favorite past times. Now, I live in the desert with my beautiful wife and five incredible children, where I enjoy the outdoors and high adventure activities. I love spending time with my immediate and extended family. I love to travel. I've been to most states in the Union and love visiting my extended family in Finland and seeing friends in Spain. My father is Dutch/English and a descendant of a passenger of the Mayflower. My mother is a Finnish immigrant. I am a federal employee and enforce federal law. I love this country and am honored to serve it.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a fifth generation member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My great-great-great grandfather crossed the plains to the Salt Lake Valley as a leader in the Church. Even though my family has been members for generations, I still had to come to understand the truthfulness of gospel on my own. Growing up, I knew in my heart that God exists and that Jesus is the Christ and my Savior. I found out the Church and its teachings are true by a simple and sincere method. I prayed and asked God to know if it was true and the Holy Ghost testified to me the truthfulness of its teachings. The testimony I received continues to grow and I continue to learn. Among these teachings is the Plan of Salvation. The plan our Heavenly Father has for us to show us his love for us. It explains where we came from, why we are here, and where we will go after we die. It tells us what our eternal potential is and explains the importance of families. It puts our lives in perspective and gives us purpose. It also gives us peace, hope and comfort. This knowledge that I received is so important I dedicated two years of my life serving a mission to teach the people of Spain these important principles. I have a deep love for Jesus Christ and know he is my savior. I know that he wants me to continue to learn and grow throughout my life and that he has a plan for each and every one of us. He will be there for us whenever we need him and that we can always turn to him for strength and love.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to be a good husband and father, and a good example to those around me. I also try to live Christ like life. By no means am I perfect, but I know I would be in much worse shape if I did not have the gospel in my life. I am a better person for trying to live more like him. Through the Church I have the opportunity to work with youth. Apart from being a father, I can’t think of a better way to help the future of our society than to be a good influence on today’s youth. Currently, I get to teach Sunday school to 16 and 17 year olds and help out in the Boy Scout program. It is extremely important that I am an example to them and teach them the Gospel of Jesus Christ. By being an example, I strive to have regular scripture study and pray with my family every day. Living as a member of the Church does not limit or restrict you, but gives you freedom from vices and stresses of the world. My faith teaches me to be a better husband and father.
