Hi I'm Lisa

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I am Mormon. I was born and raised in the Midwest.

About Me

I am a wife, mother of three, junior high special education teacher, and co-owner of a radio station with my husband. I am also a graduate level college student earning an Educational Specialist degree in Mental Health Practices in Schools. I enjoy walking/running, reading, spending time with my family, music, and traveling. I am a cancer survivor and I live life to the fullest and try to enjoy each and every day. While I am a member of the LDS Church, my husband belongs to the Baptist religion. We are raising our children in both beliefs and teaching them to have tolerance for other religious beliefs.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the LDS church when I was eight and even though I thought the Book of Mormon to be true and the Church to be true, it was not until I read the Book of Mormon that I knew without a shadow of a doubt that it was true; the church was true. Throughout my ordeal with cancer, the power of the priesthood was made evident to me and gave me great comfort knowing that my Heavenly Father does love me and knows what is happening to me. While I hope to never have to go through cancer treatments again, I have been blessed because of my experience. I have a greater faith in Heavenly Father and his plan of Salvation. I hope that through my own experiences, I can be of help to someone else who may be going through the same things. Along with being a member of the Church, I am a direct descendant of Joseph Smith through his sister Catherine. As I have studied Church history and my own genealogy, it has been fun seeing how Church history is also family history for me. I love watching films about Joseph Smith and sharing them with my family as it helps them to learn Church history and family history at the same time. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church here on earth. The Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants work hand-in-hand with the Bible to make it more understandable and fill in the gaps left in the Bible; they help to complete the Bible doctrines and make it more comprehensible to all who read these sacred books. I love the Gospel and what it stands for; I love the fact that I can be with my family forever; and I love my Savior and Heavenly Father for the blessings they have given my family and me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith. I avoid those things the Church has asked us to avoid such as coffee, tea, and inappropriate clothing to name a few. I try not to compromise my beliefs and avoid situations where this may happen. I share my beliefs with those who ask me what I believe. In church, I am a substitute piano player for the children's classes (Primary) and for the ladies Sunday school class (Relief Society). I also assist with teaching during the women's midmonth activity. My husband is a member of another church and even though I may go to church with him on occasion, I do not hide what I believe to others. I do not flaunt it as it is his church, but neither do I hide it. I live what I believe and I am teaching my children to do the same. Even though my husband and I have differing beliefs, we have been able to raise our children to have respect for all religions. They have had the opportunity to not only learn about my beliefs but my husband's as well. While it has been difficult raising a family in a dual a religion home, it has also been a blessing. My husband has learned about the LDS beliefs and I have had the opportunity to learn protestant beliefs and share my beliefs and LDS children's songs through Bible school for my husband's church. As with things that are difficult, the blessings have been wonderful!
