Hi I'm Karlene

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I the mother of five children and grandmother of 25, and one more coming in a few months. Family is the most important thing in my life. My husband and I look forward to visits from each of them. I love to garden and swim and run. I train lifeguards, including first aid, CPR and AED training. Until just recently I was pool manager in our community and taught children to swim. Other than these seasonal jobs, I have always been a stay at home mom. I have run 13 marathons and plan to run at least two more which would make 15 years in a row. I am not fast but love to feel the thrill of crossing the finish line. I help take care of my mother and my mother-in-law so that they can remain in their homes. This includes yard work and rides to appointments and even limited first aid. I love the time I am able to spend with them.

Why I am a Mormon

I feel that I was very blessed to be born in to a home where my parents were Mormons. I was taught from the time I was very young to love the scriptures and the teachings of Jesus. Family time together one evening a week was very important as I grew up in a changing world. I felt love and security in this family setting. The Book of Mormon and it's stories has blessed my life from the time I was a small child. I know it to be another testament of Jesus Christ. I have never doubted that is is true. As I grew older and the things that I learned and believed were challenged, it strengthened my faith that what I had been taught was true, as I received a person witness that it indeed was true. I was learning for myself that God lives and is aware of each of us daily. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. That he loves me and wants me to succeed as a wife and mother and if I follow his teachings of service and love, he will provide the way for me to accomplish great things. I know that Joseph Smith restored the gospel to the earth and that we have a living prophet today in Thomas S. Monson. I know that we can always trust him as a prophet of God to guide us in the right direction as we work out our salvation. My desire to return with my family to live with my Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ drives the choices I make and the things I do on a daily basis. I know my family can be together forever. Nothing in this life is more valuable to me than this knowledge, and I strive each day to live worthily so that I can attain this goal. I know that through the atonement of Christ that my sins and shortcomings can be forgiven as I humble myself and repent and then continue on the path of righteousness. I love my Savior and am thankful for the peace and comfort I receive each day as I pray and ask for guidance. I gain strength to continue on in difficult times and rejoice in good times.

How I live my faith

I teach a gospel lesson to 9 year olds with my husband each Sunday. We teach stories from the scriptures and help them understand how to apply the teachings of Jesus in their own lives. I love to teach and feel their excitement to learn. I am a visiting teacher which means that once a month I go to the homes of three assigned women and share a gospel message with them and visit about family and events that are happening in their lives. We also try to be aware of any needs of the women that we may be able to help with. I love to go to their homes and serve as needed. We form a friendship and trust that is very special to me. I enjoy serving in the community on our local recreation district board. We offer activities for the young people to be active and stay fit as they participate, such as soccer, baseball, and swimming. We also sponsor a 1 mile race for the children and a 10 K for those who would like to participate during our yearly Pioneer Days Celebration.

Are Mormons Christians?

My life is centered around my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am a Christian in every sense of the word. I dearly love Him and acknowledge that all good things come through Him and that his atonement is the means by which I will return to my Father in Heaven. Show more Show less
