Hi I'm Alan C A

I'm a Mormon. I am co-founder of WordPerfect Corp and Thanksgiving Point. My wife and I have 11 children and 50 grandchildren.

About Me

I love the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoy reading of his gospel in the scriptures each day. The most important thing to me after my firm testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ and knowledge of a kind and loving Heavenly Father is my family. When my wife and I met, we were both looking for someone who loves the Lord. We found each other and married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. We have eleven children, all married in the temple, and we now have fifty grandchildren, three of whom are deceased. We love being together as family members and enjoy frequent vacations together. I enjoyed doing math story problems in Middle School and wanted to be a nuclear physicist or chemist. When I returned from a two and a half year mission for the Church in Central Germany, I took many math classes at the University of Utah and after graduating in Math, I stayed for a Doctorate in Computer Science under Chairman David Evans. While I was teaching Computer Science at Brigham Young University, one of my graduate students and I founded WordPerfect Corporation. It was a joy to have our ideas of making word processing available to the masses on general purpose computers come to fruition. I enjoy playing tennis, reading books, playing chess, playing the trumpet, and learning about new technologies and information which is electronically available. I love doing things with my children and grandchildren. Most of all I adore and love my wife.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents came from strong LDS families and brought me up in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I came to know of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, and thus the verity that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, when I read and prayed concerning the truth of the words in the Book of Mormon when I was in Basic Training for the Military in Fort Ord, California. After I had read the Book of Mormon and thought of its teachings compared to the Bible, I prayed to Heavenly Father asking him in the Name of Jesus Christ if the Book of Mormon was true. I felt such an electrifying, tingling sensation throughout my soul which confirmed to my spirit the truthfulness of the book. Since then I have received an ever stronger testimony of the truthfulness and goodness of the gospel of Jesus Christ as I have seen its influence for good, joy, and contentment in the lives of my children and their families. I believe and have witnessed the truthfulness of the words of the Savior as I have attempted to live them in my life. I have seen the peace and happiness that the gospel has brought into the lives of others, among those I met on my first mission, among fellow Church members, among our extended family, among those whom I have taught and counseled, and among Church leaders. I am a Mormon because I believe it embraces God's plan of happiness for us, his children. I am a Mormon because I see the positive and joyous countenances of those who have come unto the Lord with love and full purpose of heart.

How I live my faith

I am grateful for advances in technology which allow me to have the scriptures and words of modern prophets in my pocket. Having both the written text of the scriptures with hot links to footnotes, and the audio versions of the scriptures in my iPhone, I love spending a little time each day in reading and listening to the scriptures. I have had the opportunity of serving in the Church as a stake president, a mission president and now as a bishop. These callings are sacred because they have to do with the wellness of the souls of others. I have experienced the love and revelation from on high as I have counseled and encouraged others in this satisfying service. I have always loved teaching the gospel, especially to my family members. I know it to be true and from God.
