Hi I'm Melissa

I play trombone. I'm a college student. I'm a missionary in Siberia. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm going to school to be an elementary school teacher. I am emphasizing in music because I have seen the difference positive music has made in my life. However, I am taking a year and a half break to be a missionary in Russia.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so I have been a member my whole life. I have never had a desire to leave or rebel because I have always felt that it was good and it was true. As I have read the Book of Mormon throughout my life, I feel the love of my Heavenly Father. I know that He lives and He loves me. The Book of Mormon is His word given through His prophets. There are moments when these truths are brought powerfully to my mind and my heart and tears come to my eyes because I know it is true. More importantly quiet, gentle feelings come every day as I study and obey and these convince me that it is true. Now, I am far from perfect and there are days when I don't necessarily feel that. Those are the times that I cling to what I know and push through anyway. The gospel is true even when it doesn't seem like it. Your Father loves you even when you don't feel like He does.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by incorporating it into everything I do. I always start my day with prayer and scripture study and I pray throughout the day as I try to have the Holy Ghost with me and do things the Lord's way. As a college student, I decided to study elementary education because I feel like that is how the Lord wants me to serve His children. I try to serve the Lord in everything I do and to do what He asks of me. I have found happiness and peace that only our Savior can give us as I have done my best. Right now I am on a mission for my church. I am dedicating my time to teach people how the gospel of Jesus Christ can help them be happy now and have eternal life in the world to come. I want others to have the joy that I have found. I'm especially excited about serving the people in Russia. I know that the message I carry can lift and heal the wounds that so many have inflicted on those wonderful people.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

It is through the Holy Ghost that I have felt peace, joy, comfort, and direction in my life. I have been led to the things that have given me joy and enriched my life. It is through the Holy Ghost that I have felt the love of my Savior and the incomparable joy that comes from that. Show more Show less

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

We all know that men and women are different and they are meant to do different things. Women have a special purpose and role in the church and family. It is inherently different from that of men, but it is just as vital. Because of that, men hold the priesthood and women do not. Our Father loves all of His children and cares for all of them. He uses us to answer the prayers of His other children. Men and women have different and special ways that they can be used by our Father to bless their brothers and sisters. Show more Show less
