Hi I'm Thomas

I am from Idaho. I'm in college. I'm a Latter-Day Saint and... ITS AMAZING!

About Me

I grew up in a small city. I have a big family. I like to play sports soccer, basketball, baseball, football, tennis, extreme badminton, etc. I like to climb around in the mountains, fly fish, travel, be at home, etc. I am in college. I want to become a doctor.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Latter-Day Saint because my ancestors sought for truth and a better life. When they came across missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints in their various countries they were intrigued and investigated. They then read the Book of Mormon, asked God if it was true and received a witness of that truth from the Holy Ghost. About 100 years ago, my anscestors in Germany, were approached one day by two friendly young American men on the street. They must have been quite shocked at the sight of the foreigners and there friendly demeanor. They were carrying a book and said said in broken German " please, eat this book! " They must have been quite confused, but they felt a special peaceful feeling about their invitation to read the book The Book of Mormon. They soon gained personal witnesses that it was true and came to America to live in the Rocky Mountains. I grew up in a family immersed in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Though we had many shortcomings, the gospel always seemed to bind us together. As a result we have only grown closer and closer through the years. My parents are humble, faithful, and hardworking. They don't seek attention or praise from others... they seek to be clean and true in the eyes of God. And that close relationship and trust which they have developed with our Heavenly Father, has provided a safe environment for him to send children to be reared and raised in righteousness. He really does trust them and they have 9 children who are not straying from the strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life. I am delighted to follow in the footsteps of such great examples as God has placed before me. Throughout my youth, I gained a greater and greater conviction from the Holy Ghost that this really is the true and living church of Jesus Christ. I really do know for myself, that it is true. I know that God knows me personally because of the many small miracles he has given me to prove that.

How I live my faith

I just returned from a mission in Russia for two years. This was a miraculus, rewarding, and challenging time in my life. I always wanted to be a missionary because I saw missionaries return from their missions and tak about how much they loved the people they served and loved seeing people come unto Christ through conversion coming to accept, embrace, and live according to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I had very spiritual experiences that made me excited for when I could be a missionary. Finally I was old enough and I was called to serve in Russia. Learning Russian and learning how to do missionary work was the hardest thing I have ever done. But it was so worth it. Helping God change peoples' hearts and bring them to him through his church changed me. I found that the better I lived my religion, the closer I came to Christ, and the better I could be as an instrument in God's hands for the conversion of those people he is preparing to receive this his restored gospel. I loved my mission! It was the most amazing thing! I know that this church is Jesus Christ's living church. It is on the earth as it was in ancient times... as it should be. It is the most important message in the world! It is all over the world. People don't realize it, but it is the most amazing global organization there is. The church is the same everywhere. The members in Russia were amazing people, the best people in the country. That's how it is everywhere. The famous classic author Charles Dickins told it straight in the 1800's when he saw a group of the first members in Great Britain and said that they were "the pick and crop of England!" This really is the kingdom of God on earth, the household of faith Ephesians 219-20, New Testament built upon a foundation of living apostles and prophets. It is true... I know it... and God gave us the Book of Mormon so that we can each recieve a spiritual witness of that.

What is being a Mormon like?

Thomas
Being a Latter-Day Saint is different depending on your level of spirituality. The more you grow spiritually, the more happiness you gain from the gospel. Here is a great analogy to make this principle come to life for you. It comes from Dieter F. Utchdorf, one of the main leaders of the church. He had a very successful career for Lufthansa airlines chief pilot, vice president, etc. in his native Germany. As a commerical pilot, he especially enjoyed the privilege of taking off from an airstrip, soaring above the earth, into the clouds and heavens above. This is indeed a freedom that most do not enjoy. When days were dark, rainy, and dreary.. he could fly away at will. He could take off and soar up above the clouds into a beautiful blue horizon were the sun shown clear and bright and leave the dreary circumstances below him. At one point, thought struck him.. this freedom was analgous to living the the gospel of Jesus Christ fully in your life. The gospel helps you soar above the dreary days of the world. When you are discouraged, you can turn to Jesus Christ and his gospel, and you can fly up and away from the discouragement. It increases our ability to have joy. As we live the gospel, we forget ourselves in service to others. And we truly live life the way its meant to be lived. We must LEARN TO FLY and never let the adversary and the world bring us down. Truly, each of us is meant, not to wander through life, but to soar! With Jesus Christ, it is possible. Show more Show less
