Hi I'm Jake

I'm a global professional photographer and video producer from the Southwest United States, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I married to a beautiful woman, who actually love sports almost as much as I do. We have been blessed with two precious daughters. I have a BFA in Photography and strive everyday to satisfy the entrepreneurial spirit inside me, to better the life of my family and those around me.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised within a Mormon family. As I got older, my closest friends couldn't see why I wanted to continue in such a "restricting" faith, now that I was 18 and more free do what I wanted. They couldn't understand why I want to leave my home for two years and serve a mission in a foreign third-world country. They couldn't believe I would still be "cool" when I came home, or that I would be happy if I started a family at a young age. But when I was young, I could feel the truth in what I was being taught. When I picked up the Book of Mormon to sincerely read it those last few months before my mission at the age of 18, I felt something so overwhelming and powerfully good within me that I knew I would never be able to deny that this book was true. Since those nights of reading years ago, many amazing and miraculous experiences have added to that conviction. In my profession, I have sat in the pews of LDS chapels in various continents as we halt our work on Sundays. The spirit of truth is in the eyes of these people, whether in Ghana, Sweden, or Chile. When I have wandered from the teachings of Jesus Christ, I have felt the difference in my overall happiness. When I have held strong to those teachings I have felt the immense joy God promises to all who will follow these principles. I know that these things are true. I have lived them. This Church is God's path. It's wonderful to see lives change in this very chaotic world as they put faith in the true teachings of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

We live in a world that I feel has written off the potential of our younger generation. Thankfully, in the Church we know there is great potential for good in every soul on this planet. I give time to teens in my community, teaching them photography at the local recreation center. I also contribute to making our schools stronger, to better the education of the kids in our town. I enjoy serving as a spiritual leader in the Church, and have the opportunity to speak monthly in front of different congregations, addressing themes that contribute to our peace and happiness in this life.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Jake
I love this about the Church. We all contribute, out of love and commitment to Christ, not for financial gains. It is just one of the reasons why this Church is true. We all help each other, serving one another. When I give money to the Church, as a donation or tithing, it is my decision and it is done privately. That money goes to maintain the chapels and keep the Church growing, and never into the pockets of a pastor or preacher. I feel confident it will be spent in a way that will benefit the lives of everyone. Show more Show less
