Hi I'm Michael

I'm a native of Las Vegas. I'm student studying business. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently studying finance with aspirations of becoming a health care administrator. I volunteer several days at a hospital and am in charge of a community-wide fundraising organization. I love being outdoors and spending time with friends and family. I enjoy taking road trips and attending concerts of some of my favorite bands. I spent two years serving a mission for the LDS church in the Bay Area and loved every moment of it.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised by parents of the Mormon faith who taught me to live by principles of faith, hope, and charity. To me the concepts and value the LDS faith teaches makes sense and I have experienced the blessings, or the benefits, associated by living the standards set forth by the Savior and those he calls to serve Him. I have seen how wrong decisions and choosing to live in opposition to the commandments can bring people down paths of unhappiness and bitterness. Although my life has not been perfect and I have had my disappointments, I feel that by being obedient i have found myself often in very favorable circumstances. My belief in the Savior and in the restored gospel is something that is a part of who I am. It has not come coincidentally and I would never say that I am following blindly. It has taken personal prayers and pleadings, utilization of the Christ's sacrifice, and life experiences to put me where I am today. I know that God, our Father, knows who we are personally and individually. His Son, Jesus Christ, has showed the way to find peace in this life and provided a way of reconciliation of our sins. The same gospel and church He established when He was on the earth during his mortal ministry was restored, or brought back, through the calling of the prophet Joseph Smith. Only by putting in practice the principles of the gospel and sincere prayer can one receive answers as to the eternal truths found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon is being a friend to everyone. Although we live standards that may seem strange to others, it shouldn't be something that divides us from making friends and building relationships with people who may not believe the same as we do. To me, making decisions before a situation arises and letting others know what believe and value has made a difference in growing up around those who have different viewpoints or lifestyles than me. I try to live my faith by serving in my community and seeing the good in others.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

I think if life had no purpose then life would have no meaning. It is like continually practicing at a dress rehearsal without ever intending to perform. Latter-day saints believe and know that this life is a time learn and to grow. Everyday we are faced with decisions and challenges that can lead us down one path or another. Our responsibility is to choose the way that leads towards happiness and the potential to live with God and our families again. This entails keeping the commandments the Lord has created to not only test us, but also to help us enjoy life. By keeping the commandments of the Lord and understanding that one is a child of God, then that person has direction in his or her life. One may argue that by doing what one pleases, true freedom and happiness is found, but in my experience temporary pleasures often do not lead to lasting joy. That joy is what the soul yearns for and what the gospel brings. Show more Show less
