Hi I'm Mattie

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in California but have lived in many different places. This world and its people are beautiful everywhere.

About Me

I am a widow with 5 children, 5 children in-law and 20 grandchildren. I grew up in California and was introduced to the Mormon Church by my parents who came from Utah and Idaho pioneer families. Just a couple of months before I was 10 years old the Mormon missionaries came to our house to teach me the Gospel. I was so surprised that they would direct their discussions directly to me. I felt very special and believed all that they taught me and very soon was baptized.. While continuing to attend Church in my childhood and youth my testimony and knowledge of the Gospel grew until it meant more to me than anything. I read the Book of Mormon for myself when I was about 13 years old and received a special witness that it is the true word of God. I remember holding the book close to me and feeling comforted. I was so inspired that I wanted to tell everyone in the world about the Book of Mormon. I still do.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe and have faith in the resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ and worship him as my God, King and Savior. I have a witness by the power of the Holy Ghost that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Gospel of Jesus Christ restored by God through the prophet Joseph Smith. I know the Book of Mormon is true scripture, inspired and brought forth for all the world. It is a powerful witness that Jesus is the Christ and it supports that the Bible is holy scripture too. Reading the scriptures helps me to see how I can repent of my mistakes and sins while receiving help and forgiveness from God. I find joy in the love I have been given toward the Lord and my fellowman. I love to tell other people how they can have this joy too. They can know for themselves the truths of the Gospel and that God lives and loves them and that we truly are his children.

How I live my faith

I strive to keep the Sabbath Day holy and attend Church each Sunday. I am a teacher in the Church women's society; with a sister partner visit assigned sisters in their home or on the phone to share a message and to see if they need any help; and serve in the temple once a week. Reading the scriptures every day helps me to keep in tune with the Spirit and increases my faith and love for the Savior. I have found this to be a great help in receiving personal inspiration and guidance. My family is very important to me and I try to keep close to my children and to love and support them in any way that I can. I am grateful for their father and all that he did to nurture and provide for them. We miss him and look forward to reuniting our family with him again in the hereafter. My brothers and sisters are an important part of my life. We have a lot of family history in common and love our parents. I am thankful for the heritage I have received from my mother and father and grandparents. Genealogy researh and work in the temple for my ancestors has been an enduring interest of mine for many years. I love my country and am very interested in the history and places where my ancestors lived.
