Hi I'm Bobby

Texan. Artist. Musician. Entrepreneur. Student. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a big family: four sisters, a brother and we wont even get started on step-brothers and sisters! I love my family even though we're spread out now and we've never been perfect. I'm studying Mechanical engineering and trying to make the best of life! I love makin' music on my own or with my band. I've dabbled lots in photography, painting, sculpting... pretty much anything do with with art, design and creation. I love putting my ideas to work, so I've got a few small businesses I'm working on in real estate and clothing production. I'm pretty much your average twenty-something year old guy, trying to scrape by through college and figure out what life has in store for me.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this church and have always known that the teachings were good things, but I didn't always know they were TRUE. I think there comes a time in everyone's life when you have to evaluate what it is that you really want to make a part of your life and who you are. When I was 18 I reached that point that I needed to know not just that the church was good, but if God really existed and if this was really His authorized church; and if it was, did I want to make it part of my life? I'd grown up reading the Book of Mormon, going to church and praying, but mostly because that's what I was supposed to do, now I started doing it because I needed to know if it was really what it claimed to be. The Book of Mormon has a promise that if you read it, think about what it says and pray to know if its true, that God will confirm that it is by the Spirit. Well I really wanted to know so I read, prayed... and didn't feel anything. I kept tried again and again over a month or so until finally it dawned on me that I wanted to know if it was all true so I could make up my mind to follow it or not. I figured that probably wasn't the best attitude to have, so I made up my mind and let God know that IF He let me know that this really was true and His church, Then I would really make it central to my life and a part of who I was going to become. Turns out in my case that was good enough for Him, and it wasn't too long before I was sitting at work and got my answer: it was the happiest and most peaceful familiar feeling I'd never felt before. It was as if I'd always known what was true, but just didn't realize I knew till that moment. I'm a Mormon because I prayed and received an answer from God that this is the church with the authority to act in His name. Because I've seen and felt the changes the simple, completely understandable teachings have made in myself and in the lives of others. I'm a Mormon because it's not just a good church, it's God's one True church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith on a daily basis, some days I do better than others. I know life can be hard, and that it is for everyone, but that doesn't make it much easier to accept problems cheerfully when they come! What does help is knowing that God has a plan for me, and that through Christ and His strength all my weaknesses and all the many many mistakes I make can be made right. I live my faith by trying to get to know my Savior better every day through scripture study, prayer and trying to follow the Spirit. If I can do at least one small thing a day to be more like Christ, I know I'm on the right track. I go to a church unit for college aged singles, and it's great to be able to be around others that are going through the same struggles and stages of life that I am. It's also good because we become each others support and family, especially for those who are far from their real families. I serve in our unit as the President of the men's organization, and I try to make sure that everyone feels welcome, and if anyone has need of something or is struggling we do anything we can to help them out. It has been amazing to feel the joy that comes from serving others, looking after their needs and being able to be there for them when they didn't have anyone to turn to.
