Hi I'm Matt

I'm an IT guy, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy working with technology at work and at home. The PC's outnumber the people in our home. I enjoy music and movies. I play the piano. I am the fourth of nine children. My wife is the youngest of nine. We have six daughters and three sons of our own. We didn't make plans to have a large family, and for the first four years, it looked like we might not have children at all. We made a decision to be the best parents we could for whatever children He sent us, and the Lord has always provided according to our needs. I enjoy the outdoors and working with young people. I currently serve as a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are members of the church, but most of my brothers and sisters are not. We all had the same experiences growing up, but we haven't all made the same choices. I'm an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because the gospel of Jesus Christ is real. His sacrifice for us is real. Helping others, keeping yourself clean and staying in touch with our Father in Heaven brings happiness in this life and salvation in the life to come. I've had many experiences and reasons that have led me to where I am now, but what it boils down to is this: I feel it. I see the results in my own life and in the lives of others, and the fruits are good. Why this church and not another? I see good things in friends, other churches and organizations, but they all seem to be missing or misunderstanding little pieces here and there. Many seem to have given up on the idea of apostles and prophets, but the truth is, God has not.

How I live my faith

I try to remember, and teach my children, that we should be generous with the blessings our Father in Heaven has bestowed upon us. Even as a large family, our needs have always been met, with some to spare. We look for opportunities to share the resources, talents and abilities we've been blessed with. There's always someone we can help if we're open to the opportunities and are brave enough to reach out to others. Faith starts in our home. We were blessed to be a family so we could help each other out. We pray together, eat together and read from the scriptures together every day. One night each week is a family night and we have short spiritual lesson, game, or activity. We try to plan other fun activities together on a regular basis. We encourage our children to help come with ideas and to plan and lead some of the activities. I try to set a good example and I try to adopt the good things I see in those around me.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Matt
The atonement of Jesus Christ is the most important event in the history of mankind! The apostle Paul wrote that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". That certainly applies to me and everyone I know. Jesus suffered for us, paying the price for our sins, so we could repent and become clean again without suffering as He did. He was the first to be resurrected so we can all live again. I don't know how he was able to do those things, but I have felt the love He showed for us and the hope that He gives us now and for eternal life. Show more Show less
