Hi I'm Matthew Mazankowski

I'm a guitarist and a songwriter, I love to smile and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 23 years old. I grew up in a wonderful Canadian home full of hockey, music and homework. I am the guitarist and co-songwriter for Behind Sapphire, a Vancouver-based Experimental Pop group. One of my favourite things to do is to travel - I have been so blessed to have had the opportunity to see the world and meet so many amazing people with the band, my family and friends. I have a deep love in my heart for everyone whom I've been blessed to meet - I know that I am a better person because of their influence and example to me. I love to learn and grow, and although I have many struggles and weaknesses to overcome, I am so thankful for my friends and family who support and strengthen me. I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and my heart swells with joy and gratitude for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the perspective, hope and fulfillment it brings, that I can't help but to smile. I love to smile, it's probably my favourite thing to do. I love it when other people smile back, it makes me smile even bigger. I think the world could do with a few more smiles...

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a good home, with wonderful parents, who taught me good principles and a basic knowledge of God and his Son. I met my best friend in high school, who was a Mormon. We played music together and over time became the greatest of friends. He shared the Church with me by inviting me to Youth Dances and to Church. I started meeting with the missionaries when I was 18. They taught me the Gospel, and helped me to learn about the Church and the Book of Mormon. I remember one day, desiring to know about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I prayed to God with the desires of my heart and began reading a passage in the book of Nephi. The Spirit came upon me, so powerfully, and in that moment I knew it was true. I love the Gospel and I know that by living by its principles and by keeping the commandments, I will feel the most joy in this world.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying each day to be a better person. I try to love the people around me more fully and completely. I try to be more honest and selfless, and I try to work my hardest, no matter the task. I try to take life in strides, with faith guiding each step of the way. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has given me hope; it gives me the perspective I need to be happy every day. Of course, I have my struggles and weaknesses, but I have been blessed to know that no matter what, everything will be okay and the trials and tribulations in my life will be for my good and will help me become the man I need to be. How grateful I am for my Saviour Jesus Christ, His Atonement, His teachings and His example to me. How I desire to be like Him. I know that if I try my best every day, with my sights on Him, I will have happiness in this life. I have a testimony of daily prayer and scripture study and how, as I do these things, I am blessed with spiritual strength, perspective, gratitude and love - enough to overcome any struggle. I have a testimony that serving other people brings true joy into ones life. I am so grateful to know and to share the testimony of truth that echoes within my soul.
