Hi I'm Cassandra

I grew up in Las Vegas. I'm 18 and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated high school and i'm attending college in the fall. I've grown up in Las Vegas and I'm the middle child of 5. I am taking that step into the adult world. I no longer live with my parents and i'm learning how to take care of myself.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of my love for Jesus Christ. Yes, many other religions believe in Christ but The Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints is different. God restored his church on the earth through Joseph Smith. God restored his power called the priesthood to righteous men so that many could receive the blessing that God has intended for his children. The reason it was necessary for God to restore his gospel was because the apostles that Jesus called were killed off and when all the apostles had died the priesthood was taken from the earth as well. Since the priesthood was no longer on the earth, Men ran the church without any guidance. That is why so many christian religions have begun. These religions have some of the principals that Christ established but only The Church of Jesus Christ has every principal spoken of from the scriptures and the leaders are guided through revelation as the apostles were. I believe that Christ is my savior. He suffered for my sins and all the sins of the world because of his tremendous love. I am forever grateful for his sacrifice. God has a plan and as i've read the scriptures, I have come to know more of his workings. As i study his wold, i come to realize that everything that has ever happened is a part of his plan. Joseph Smith couldn't have, at 14, had the capacity to make up an entire religion that many have studied and come to believe. God was with Joseph every step of the way making sure that his plan was being fulfilled. I believe in the Book of Mormon and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by following God's commandments. I listen to my church leaders guidance. I am the Laurels president for my ward. I have had this calling for about 18 months and i've really enjoyed it. I've had the opportunity to get to know each girl really well. I have been able to help them with their direct needs. This calling has shown me how organized the church is. I have a meeting once a month with my bishop and the other presidents for the youth to plan activities and discuss any concerns that the youth have. The leaders of this church give all their time and effort without pay because they know they are serving their Heavenly Father. They truly love the people they are called to serve and many do more than is asked.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Cassandra
When Joseph Smith restored the gospel to the earth, He was commanded to restore everything. Plural marriage was a commandment and practiced by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. So this principal had to be restored as well as the rest. When Joseph was first commanded to practice plural marriage he was hesitant because his love was devoted to Emma. The early saints who were commanded to practice plural marriage had to exercise faith to follow this commandment. Plural marriage ,as shown in the bible, is used to increase the population of God's followers. Once God had fulfilled his plan, the members no longer needed to practice plural marriage. As shown in Jacob, which is a book in the book of mormon, Plural marriage was not commanded at that time to be practiced. When God has not commanded the practice for his purposes then it is a sin. Any person involved in plural marriage at this time is not apart of this church. Show more Show less
