Hi I'm Matt Downs

I grew up in Colorado. My wife and I now live near Chicago, IL. I am a husband, a dad, an investor, and a Mormon.

About Me

I don't finish most books that I start, but I love reading. Fiction, non-fiction, the newspaper, pretty much anything with words is of interest. I plan to write my own words one day - most likely fiction. After books, my next best interest is conversations. Deep discussions about world issues, religion, matters of character, and cars. Regarding my job, it fits me well - I'm an investor / entrepreneur. I help companies start and then help them grow. I'm currently investing in the Health Care and Agriculture sectors. I'm a city type, but I don't mind the outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe. I am Mormon because I believe it is true. I have felt the truthfulness of the Mormon doctrine and principles over and over in my life. I am Mormon because the teachings inspire me to become a better husband, father, and overall person. I am Mormon because I like to read. I have read and re-read the Book of Mormon several times. The words of the book are the same, but the message changes as I change. I know the Book of Mormon can change lives for good. It has changed my life. I love that book.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite responsibilities I have at church is to prepare the chapel for our sacrament service. I organize the hymn books, pick up paper and make the room look nice. Often little children from the congregation help me. You can see their little heads moving from pew to pew making the room look just right. It's a small thing to prepare the room, but it sets the tone for the service. Another point - I have many weaknesses, but it's best if I don't share them with you. Let's just say I try to live my faith by recognizing my imperfections and trying to be a little better each day.
