Hi I'm Mike

I was raised in Phoenix, AZ. I love sports, progressive rock, and have a Master's degree in Social Work. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been in the helping profession for over 20 years. I am married with five awesome kids. We love hiking, camping, playing sports, reading books, jumping on tramps, pizza movie nights, enjoying making and eating Japanese and Mexican food, and just hanging out. I love to read anything by Clive Cussler and Terry Brooks. I like fast cars...evidenced by the picture of me in my brother's Audi at the top of my profile. I love to see people enhance their lives and follow their dreams, whatever they are. Being a good dad and husband is my ultimate goal in life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Mormon home. I learned early on the importance of what Jesus Christ did for each one of us...taking our sins upon Him. Through this "gift" I am able to repent of the mistakes / sins that occur in my life. I was taught the importance of prayer, connecting with a Father in Heaven. I truly believe I am a child of God. My allegiance is not only to my earthly parents who were give the opportunity and responsiblity to raise me, but to my Father in Heaven. It is humbling and an honor to know this. I believe in the importance of having charity, which defined is Christ-like love. This is hard to attain at times...but is a worthy pursuit. I enjoy studying the scriptures and know they are the word of God...the Bible and the Book of Mormon, another testament of Christ. Through reading these scriptures I gain a better understanding of how I need to live my life. I ultimately would like to be more like Christ in word and deed. This is why I believe the way I do...this is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I was a missionary for the Mormon church, spending two years in Japan. I learned to love the Japanese people. It strengthened my belief that we are all God's children. Seeing people make personal changes, coming unto Christ, and gaining an understanding of their relationship with their Father in Heaven was rewarding. I keep my Japanese language up by praying, daily, in Japanese. I try to always have integrity, be kind to others, and look for ways to serve which means getting out of my comfort zone...this can be hard. I attend church services weekly to study and learn with other members of the Mormon church how to better apply the teachings of Christ in my life. It can be difficult with all the distractions our there of media, daily responsiblities, "not enough time in the day," life tragedies, etc. However, I am able to consistenlty find peace in my life, come what may, when my focus is on Christ and what He has done for me. I volunteer time each week to working with 11 yr olds in a teaching capacity.
