Hi I'm Gena

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Two weeks before graduating with my BS in Communication, we had our first daughter. She is now three, and we have an 18-month-old son too. Right now I stay at home with them and work at a call center a few days a month while my husband, who also works part-time, is finishing up his last semester of undergrad before tackling on the challenge of applying for and entering dental school. I like to blog, re-do furniture when I get a chance and spend my days learning from and teaching my children. I also love a good book.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because the teachings and principles this church is based on is where I find real joy. I know that my Savior lives and loves me, and that He is very aware of me and what I am going through. He is always there, and all I have to do is pray to be reminded of that. I was raised in an LDS home and had many experiences as a child and teenager to help me feel the Spirit and recognize truth. But still, for a short time I thought happiness could be found other ways. It was then when I fully realized only the Gospel of Jesus Christ could bring me true happiness, and I have never looked back.

How I live my faith

My husband and I have been in a married-student ward through our university for the past five years. It was been an awesome opportunity for us to serve in many different capacities that we may not have had, had we been in a regular family ward this early in our marriage. No matter how busy we may be with school, work and family-life, we always make time for our callings at church. We know the Lord blesses us because of our efforts there. Right now I am working with the young children in our ward (18 months - 3 years) in the Nursery. Though it can seem so familiar some weeks when that's what I am doing every day in my home, I am grateful to be in their presence and see their pure and tender little spirits recognize truth as songs are sung and lessons are given. I know they know they are children of God, and it only solidifies my testimony that I am his Child that much more.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Gena
It is our mutual faith in Jesus Christ that strengthens our marriage. Because we are both strong believers of this faith, we know we are in this together. There is no backing out. We are forever, and we have to make it work. It does not mean it's always easy or that we won't have disagreements and arguments or even temptations come our way, but we know we want to be together and our faith in Christ helps bring us together in our marriage.
