Hi I'm Marilee

I live in Boston. I work in an elementary school. I'm a stage director, and direct musicals with middle schoolers each summer.

About Me

I'm a reader, quilter, theater director, teacher, Colonial history reenactor, and mother. Since I've moved to Boston, (in 1982) I've loved learning about our countries history, and recently joined a historical group that studies the Colonial years, especially 1775. I've taken part in some Patriots day reenactments and other historical events from 1775. I also love Theater. I am a stage director. Every summer, I put on a major musical, with about 35-50 middle schoolers, for our community. I love watching them learn how to bring out the best in their performances. I also teach drama classes for children. I love taking middle schooler down to NYC, to see Broadway shows for the first time! I work as an Para Professional, or Teachers Aid in my local school. It is very rewarding working with children. In my spare time, I do love quilting also, and have entered many quilt shows with my quilts. I have a loving husband and two grown sons, and a brand new daughter in law.

Why I am a Mormon

Wow. Why am I a Mormon? Well, first of all, my ancestors were all Mormon Pioneers and walked across the plains. That is a legacy I can not ignore! If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be a part of this wonderful gospel, that gives me the peace, and knowledge to carry on in this, sometimes, very difficult world. Whenever I've thought I couldn't handle life, the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been there to help me understand why trials can help me grow stong, or give me the peace to know I am not alone. When I do not know how to handle a problem, whether it is dealing with my fears, or children, or wondering why I am weak when I want to be strong, I can search the scriptures and find answers to ALL lifes questions. The bottom line? The Gospel of Jesus Christ, brings me peace.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith every single day. In my family, I try to treat my family kindly, and pray every day to know how to love them, and I also pray for them to make the right decisions in their lives. In my work, I pray to have patience when I'm dealing with all the children. The gospel teaches me that children, are innocent, under the age of 8, so I always try to remember this when my patience is growing thin. I try to see them through the eyes of my Father in Heaven. When I direct plays, I try to be mindful and kind to my actors. I try to help them learn they have tremendous protential to be there best. This is what our Father in Heaven has taught us. We have so much potential, and can do great works, and He has given us all Talents. I try to bring out those talents. I follow the 10 Commandments. I pray. I follow the Sabbath. I attend Church each week.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

As a theater Director, whenever I am having a problem with an actor getting into their role, I put them in a costume. It can be a simple comtume piece like a hat, coat, skirt, etc, but I've found that it helps them instantly get into Character. I find that when I am dressed modestly, I 'act' the part. I've always dressed modestly, and tried to teach my boys to dress modestly also. Whenever they wanted to me to buy them something outlandish, ie blue hair dye, ripped up shirts, pants that exposed underwear, my standard answer was 'I'm not costuming that play!'. They knew that I knew the power in what we wear and how we dress. It DOES affect the way we act. I know. I use that 'trick' whenever I have a shy actor. Put them in a costume. Throw them a piece of costume. They will become that person. Show more Show less
