Hi I'm Jolyn

I'm a Mom. I teach piano lessons and love music! I love my family and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mom of three children who keep my life active and eventful. My oldest son is serving a mission in Denver, Colorado, my second son is currently serving in the Brazil Santos Mission. My youngest, my daughter, is a sophomore in high school. Life is never dull. Our family loves music - band, orchestra, singing, piano. I volunteer at school and run a piano studio at home for more than 20 students. I love supporting my children and husband in their activities and commitments. Life is full of challenges and my life is not exempt. My family has dealt with cancer, death, life-changing illness and other health challenges. I've learned a few things in life - to trust Heavenly Father because He knows a whole lot better than I do what is best for me. I've learned (and am still learning) patience because most everything I have in life didn't come when I wanted it to: marriage, children, healing. I've learned to depend on the Lord for peace in my life because life is full of stress and living the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only thing that can bring peace in a world of evil and uncertainty. Every day I know I need to recharge my batteries so I am equipped to handle life's challenges. What makes me special or different? The best way I feel Heavenly Father's love is through beautiful music I feel His love and spirit in. I want to share that precious gift. I also want my home to be my family's favorite place to be.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Mormon church and frankly, I can't imagine living any other way. Being a Mormon brings great satisfaction to my life. I've been taught to be honest, obedient, respectful, chaste and virtuous, and to trust in a power greater than my own. Heavenly Father is real. I've felt His power and influence in my life more times than I can remember. He answers my prayers. When I was a kid, I prayed for a man from church. He used a cane to walk and I wanted Heavenly Father to heal him. One day I was walking down the hall with my father and I noticed this man coming towards us -- walking without his cane. I tugged on my dad's hand and told him to look and see that this man was walking without his cane. My dad acknowledged that this was true. I then told my dad I had been praying that he would be able to walk without a cane. That was a long time ago, but it taught me some very important lessons. Heavenly Father knows me, He listens to me and He answers my prayers. He wants me to talk to him through prayer because He can help me through my challenges and tough times in life, but in order to receive His help, I have to ask. I've never forgotten that day and still have a visual in my mind's eye. It laid the foundation for me to continue learning and building my testimony. I know I can help others through serving and being their friend. I love going to Church. I feel strength to handle life's challenges, I feel rejuvenated, I can recommit to live like the Savior did on earth as I work on overcoming my faults and correcting my mistakes. I know that Jesus Christ suffered and died for me so I can live again with Him and Heavenly Father. No other church teaches or understands what happens after death like the Mormon's do. My mom died recently and I know I will see her again and I will live with her again. What comfort and peace come to me to know that life is eternal.

How I live my faith

I work with the teenage girls and their leaders at Church. My goal is to help each girl to know she is a daughter of God, that He loves her and that through her obedience to his commandments, she can receive His blessings in her life. We have at least one big activity each month that helps the girls (and guys) have a chance to socialize in a clean and healthy environment, learn more about Jesus Christ, build habits that help them face a world of uncertainty, develop characteristics like Jesus, teach them the blessings of obedience and build their testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I also help with music at Church. Sometimes I play the organ or piano for the congregation. Other times I lead the music, lead a choir or accompany. It doesn't matter what I do, I love them all because music is the best way I know to invite Heavenly Father's spirit in to my heart and it teaches me how to be more like Jesus. I've been taught to serve others my entire life and I know that helping others, like Jesus devoted his life to, will help me become more like Him. I can serve my neighbors, my friends, my children and husband and anyone else I meet who needs a little or big helping hand. Serving others brings me great satisfaction because I know it invites the Spirit of the Lord in to my heart.

Are Mormons Christians?

Jolyn
Yes, Mormons are Christians. We believe in and worship Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Savior of the World. Without Jesus Christ our mortal existence would be pointless because we are imperfect without his grace, his sacrifice and his atonement on our behalf. Not only did Christ die for us on the cross, but he suffered for our sins in Gethsemane - the real significance of the atonement of Jesus Christ. Since we are mortals and sin regularly (Jesus was the only perfect person to ever live on the earth, thus the only one qualified to suffer for our sins and help us out of the bind we're in through sinning), we needed a Savior to pay for our mistakes since every action has a consequence. When we repent and try again and again and again to live more like Jesus Christ, we become more like Him and closer to our Heavenly Father. We do our best to live like Jesus, to be kind, to help others. Jesus was and is our role model and the example of what we are working for. He is the head of our Church - "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints." We witness that His mission was real and the Book of Mormon is another witness that He is the Savior of the world and the only true way back home to Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
