Hi I'm Jon

I was a Captain in the Army. Now I'm a pharmacist, a husband, a father...and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

When I was younger I had thoughts of becoming either a doctor or a fighter pilot. When I finally entered college I was unsure of what I wanted to do. I studied Biology and Secondary Education with hopes of teaching school, but then ended up in the Army. I served for a total of nine years on active duty and in the reserves and have been on two deployments overseas. Although I was successful in the military, the lifestyle was difficult. I decided my family was more important than my career, so I got out and returned to school. I am now a pharmacist and love it. This is totally what I want to do. I'm pretty sure I was the oldest one in my pharmacy school class. I guess I'm living my life backwards. My wife and I married in 1998 and tried for years to have children. Our efforts resulted in five children, all of whom died shortly after birth. We always knew, however, that God wanted us to have children, so we applied for adoption, and adopted a beautiful little boy in 2006. He is a rambunctious joy that we love very much.

Why I am a Mormon

What I love about this church is that there are no mysteries. Although we don't know every single detail, we have a knowledge of where we came from, why we are here, and where we are going. We believe that God is not just an all-powerful being out there in space somewhere, but that he is our Heavenly Father. He loves us as much as any father possibly could love a child, and he has that love for each of us. He loved us so much that he gave his only son as a sacrifice for all of us, so we could one day return to live with him.

How I live my faith

It's hard to manage everything in life sometimes. Life as an employee, parent, and husband is busy enough, let alone the responsibilities of a member of this church. One of the responsibilities I have in the church is to be a home teacher. The home teaching program is a way for the church to look out for the spiritual and monetary needs of each of its members. Teaching my family the gospel is probably the most important responsibility I have. Each day we have family prayer, we read from the scriptures, and TRY to have a weekly family home evening where we teach each other about a gospel principle. I'm not great at doing any of this, and have much I need to improve on. Jesus Christ, when we make time for him, gives us power to accomplish things that we would never be able to do on our own. As I make time for my church assignments and responsibilities, everything seems to fall into place.
