Hi I'm Susie

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mom of 5 children that range from 26 to age 12. We are a close-knit family and they are my favorite people to be around. I grew up as a tom boy and am still very active today. My favorite sports are anything "boarding"........kiteboarding, wakeboarding, snowboarding etc. I also love to windsurf and enjoy playing volleyball in our back yard. I graduated from Brigham Young University with as BS in Elementary Education and taught school for 6 years, while putting my husband through undergrad and Medical School. I love to learn and have an entrepreneurial spirit. I started a swim school about 12 years ago that my children now run in the summers. My husband and I own and operate a small business with 12 employees who are awesome to work with. I read nightly before going to bed and love to do genealogy, although it is difficult to find enough time to do it. I am happiest when I have my family around me. The most satisfying and fruitful part of having your children grow up, is that you keep adding new and amazing people to your family. The new additions compliment and make your family even better because they bring new ideas and traditions.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Mormon, so that is what I knew....but I have found that it wasn't always easy being Mormon growing up. I had a lot of friends that tried to get me to do things I had been taught would not bring me happiness. It was hard not to go along with the crowd. At about age 12 I really made a commitment to try to live my religion to the best of my ability. When I was a teen, it wasn't always easy to live my religion, but over time, I became stronger and stronger in my conviction to the teachings of the church. I had direction, I knew who I was and what I wanted in life. I couldn't be easily swayed into popular but distracting unhealthy activities. Being Mormon has given me a lot of joy and comfort and guidance in my life. The gospel of Jesus Christ teaches us to be better individuals, better parents, and better neighbors. As I have lived its teachings, I have found peace and happiness in my life. I'm far from perfect, but I also know it's not about being perfect, it is about the journey... improving and learning and helping others along the way.

How I live my faith

As Mormons we are asked to participate by giving service. I have given service over the years by working with the youth in and out of my church, teaching adult classes, helping with humanitarian aid, and by giving of my time and talents in a variety of ways. The past couple of years I have been asked to teach the 10-11 year old girls each Sunday which I have really enjoyed doing. I have also served as Camp Director to girls age 12-17 for a week each summer. Girls Camp is a combination of individual skill building and spiritual growth. The girls are taught outdoor skills; tying knots, building a fire, and cooking in the outdoors. Survival skills including first aid, and spiritual skills which include understanding that they have a Father in Heaven who loves them and wants them to be happy. We hike, sing around the campfire, have spiritual firesides, go boating, and do crafts and learn many skills that help the girls gain confidence in their own abilities. We hope they will go home with a knowledge that they are daughters of God and that He is real and cares for them individually.
