Hi I'm Laura

I live in California. I am a mother of four and an educator. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of four children. I also work with children in our local schools. I have taught high school English, French, and world history, and I have taught elementary school music and drama. I love to read adolescent literature as well as the classics. I love planning and going on trips and enjoy staying in anything from a tent to the Four Seasons! I also enjoy seeing plays and trying new restaurants.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a long line of Mormons dating back to the original latter day members and pioneers who settled Utah. This heritage is a tremendous blessing as well as responsibility. I am very grateful to my parents and ancestors who embraced the gospel of Jesus Christ because this legacy was passed on to me. My faith in Christ brings enormous strength and purpose to my life. Striving to live a Christ-like life brings me peace and joy. Following a living prophet brings me safety and direction. As I pass this on to my children, and as they choose to follow Christ and his prophets, I know that they will have this same peace and strength in their lives. This legacy is the most important thing I can leave with my children.

How I live my faith

Other than attending church each Sunday, I set goals on how I can be more like Christ. Recently my family has been reading the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament. Luke recounts example after example of Jesus' love for everyone. I try to be more patient and compassionate towards those around me and try to view people as Christ would see them, as a child of God. I try to smile more and take more time to think about how I can serve others.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Laura
As one of the leaders of the children's organization, I don't get paid for the time I spend leading and organizing our children's classes and activities. The stewardship I have been given at this time to lead the children is one of the many ways I can follow Christ's admonition to "feed His sheep".   I will only have this opportunity to lead the children's organization for just a few years until it is someone else's turn. When that time comes, there will be another area in the church where I can serve. Any service I give, brings great fulfillment and opportunities to grow and develop new talents. Show more Show less
