Hi I'm Lane

I'm a husband and a father. I love writing and PR. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm in love with my wife and kids. I will always be amazed by a spectacular sunset, a starry night away from the city, and the vastness of the ocean. I love writing, scuba diving, snorkeling, mountain biking and guitar music and I believe few things can fire the imagination and inspire like a good story, well-told.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in Jesus Christ and I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His church, restored to the earth today. I believe God has a plan of happiness laid out for us. I believe He has called prophets in our day as he did in ancient times. I know God loves all of his children--everyone on earth. He wants us to be happy and to return to live with him. I believe we will be held accountable for our own words and actions, and that we should strive to be better than we are. I believe God gives commandments so that I can achieve greater happiness in this life and Eternal Life in his presence everafter. Commandments also provide me with protection against spiritual and physical hazards in life. My parents created an environment and planted the seeds of faith in me. I've cultivated that faith as I grew up and started my own family and I expect I will continue cultivating that faith to the end of my life. As a young missionary, I prayed and asked God if Joseph Smith's story was true and if the Book of Mormon was true scripture. I feel that prayer was answered. I can feel the truthfulness of this gospel and this church in my heart. I feel the influence of the Holy Ghost confirming to me that what I'm doing is right as I try to follow Jesus Christ's example. For these reasons and more, I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My faith in Christ, my belief in his love and promises is what keeps me going from day to day. Ultimately, it's what helps me get up after I fail. It's what helps me keep hope when bad things happen, or when the dark clouds pain, hate and misunderstanding overshadow my life. I'm constantly trying to apply the truths I've learned from the gospel, the prophets and the scriptures, and overcome my weaknesses. I seek guidance from God for me and my family regularly through study and prayer. In small ways, I stand up for what I believe in. Whether in conversations at work, or social settings with friends, in social media networks online, or at church on Sunday, I try to be true to my faith and what I know to be true. I work hard to provide for my family. My wife and I have discussions on gospel-centered topics regularly, along with (and often in the context of) news and events happening around us in this world, conversations which will extend to our children as they grow.

What is faith?

I like to think of faith as a strong belief that inspires action. You wouldn't go to work unless you had faith you would get a paycheck, for example. Having faith in Jesus Christ is similar, but far more important. If you have faith in Jesus Christ, you don't just say you believe in Him, you follow His example with the hope and confidence that you will receive the blessings he's promised.   Show more Show less
