Hi I'm Paul

I'm from Florida, I'm a college student, I love computers and math, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Texas and raised in Florida. I went to a Florida public university and loved it. I'm passionate about learning, especially with math and computers, but also economics, politics, science, literature...anything that can help me understand anyone I talk to. I served a mission for the Church for two years in Tacoma, Washington, talking to people about how happy being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints makes me.

Why I am a Mormon

Some things can't be fully explained...they must be lived. And that is the way the gospel of Jesus Christ is. I could have spent hours reading about it (I love to read), but only when I try it do I really understand it. That the teachings of Jesus Christ are true is found best in the lives of those who live it. That's what I first observed...amazingly dedicated, loving, generous, and great people are members of this Church. Then when I try praying, going to church, and developing that relationship with God, I can see the difference. I knows it's true because it works, and I know it works because I'm happy.

How I live my faith

I am excited! I am excited about who I am, what lies ahead, and what I can do with the grace of God. Within the church, I serve as an assistant clerk for my young adult congregation. Outside the church, I look for things I can do to make a difference. Being here at college, there's are a lot of opportunities to organize and do good things.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Paul
The Book of Mormon is a lost book of the Holy Bible. It is named for its principle author, Mormon, just as many of the other books in the Bible, like Joshua or John, were named. The Book of Mormon wasn't a part of the Bible for a long time because 1) it was written far away from the Middle East, in the Americas, and 2) it was remained buried in the earth for centuries until God lead the Prophet Joseph Smith to find it. Now we have it again as part of God's holy scripture. Like the rest of scripture from God, the Book of Mormon witnesses of God's love for his children, his outstretched arm for their aid, and the life and mission of Jesus Christ. I feel the power of the Book of Mormon every time I read it, and you too will feel that as you continue to read it. The Book of Mormon has brought me close to God and close to my Savior Jesus Christ. That is why it was written. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Paul
Think about this...why can you think? What makes you different from the computer you are using right now? I have studied computers for years, and there is nothing fundamentally different between a computer and our best understanding of the brain. There is a great difference!...it's just not one that we understand. Sure you can compute, but what makes you conscious? Consciousness, to me, is the greatest evidence of a soul, something that I can't even to start to explain meaningfully, at least not with any branch of science we have. When I see a log cabin in the middle of the wilderness, I suspect the existence of a maker. And when I see an Earth teaming with life in the middle of a vast space, I also suspect the existence of a maker. That's just the start to find God...but anyone who is humble enough will succeed.
