Hi I'm Brandon

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a first year medical student, trying to balance time spent in the library with the rest of life. I am happiest when I am busy. Still, I love going for a run, hike, or even a drive to a quiet place and taking the time to think and put things in perspective. I love being around family. I grew up moving around a lot, and enjoy learning about new places and cultures. Learning about someone new, where they come from, what they think, and how the feel makes a day complete for me.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a member of the Church. There were times when it wasn't easy, or the popular choice. My parents always did the best they could to teach me what they believed, but let me develop a testimony of my own. Especially now that I am an adult and live on my own, I have the choice as to whether to live by the things my parents taught me, or not. Being a Mormon isn't just about going to church on Sundays. It is about becoming a follower of Jesus Christ. It is not easy all the time to do what God asks us to do. It is definitely not always popular. But God is clear about what He wants us to do, and it is simple. The simplicity of the Gospel is refreshing to me, especially in a world that seems to complicate things. Even the confusion we see amongst all the churches can be discouraging to someone seeking to find the truth. I love the invitation given at the end of the Book of Mormon--it is simple. It invites anyone who does not know about the truth of something, to ask God. We are invited to ask the Source of Knowledge himself, and He promises to answer. As I have studied, and as I have prayed with simple faith, God has answered. He has given not one, but many answers through my life. I rely on Him. I rely on my Savior Jesus Christ, and the sacrifice He made so that I can be whole, and made free of the mistakes I have made. I know He lives. I know that because He lives, we will all live again, and have the opportunity to live with Him again if we take full advantage of what He did for us. He will not leave us stranded, and always has His hand outstretched. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His church. He runs it, and guides it through his living prophet and twelve apostles. Everyone is invited to learn of its truth by asking God. He will answer if we ask, and are willing to follow through. I know that by following through so far, I have been blessed tremendously with a peace and happiness that is hard to describe. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live in Las Vegas--they call it Sin City. I attend a congregation for single adults age 18-31, and I participate in my church by helping to plan activities on Monday night for the singles in the area. Normally, families in our church reserve Monday nights for something we call Family Home Evening. It is a reserved time for the family to do things together that strengthen them as a family unit. Because we are single, and don't necessarily live at home with our families, I am assigned to plan activities where we can build and strengthen friendships and testimonies. It is a lot of work sometimes, but it is rewarding to see friendships made, service projects performed, and testimonies developed. We try to have service oriented activities, and invite anyone to participate.
