Hi I'm Dennis

I'm a farm boy from Canada who married a city girl from Hawaii. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi. I'm a baby boomer, dad and husband. I grew up on a farm and love pie à la mode. I'm interested in Native American culture, pow-wows and drum circles. My career is SAP security geek. In my leisure time I read sci-fi, study scriptures and play scrabble and table tennis, but mostly just hang out with my wife. My favorite subjects are math, astronomy and machine learning.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised up by good Christian parents. When I was 17 my mother asked me to choose for myself whether or not to attend Sunday services in the Pentecostal Church with her and my father and brother. I broke her heart when I said no. In my late 30's I began looking for a Church that focused on family values. A friend referred me to the Mormon Church and we started attending LDS services. I heard sincere testimonies and felt their abiding faith. The missionaries began to teach me. They made it perfectly clear that the only way I could ever be a member of their church was to believe in Jesus, but I lacked faith and hope. I decided to try the experiment described in Alma chapter 32 in the Book of Mormon. One night I knelt alone by my bed in prayer and sincerely promised Heavenly Father I would believe in His Son. When the missionaries returned to teach me, I was filled with joy and love. When they challenged me to be baptized, I accepted having faith that Christ himself would overcome my weaknesses and personally help me do whatever He expects. I called my mother to tell her about my decision to be baptized, and her first reaction was "Not that Church". But a minute later she had a change of heart and told me how her pillow was often wet with tears as she prayed for me to find my way back to God. She told me my decision to be baptized was an answer to her prayers. I am strengthened daily as I read the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I have a testimony that Jesus Christ lives and loves us and calls prophets and apostles to lead His Church in these latter days. This is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I am your eternal sibling. Someday we will return to heaven, but today we must love and help one another. I prioritize my daily activities to fulfill this goal and do the most good. To be prepared for emergencies, I and my wife are trained Red Cross shelter workers and Community Emergency Response Team certified. My wife and I are inseparable and we participate in many activities together. This strengthens our marriage, our home and our faith in Jesus Christ.
