Hi I'm Wyatt Powell

I enjoy the outdoors and backpacking. I have climbed the "3 Saints," the tallest peaks in Southern California. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father of 6 children. I love being in the outdoors with my family. I enjoy backpacking and, with my sons, have climbed the "Three Saints," (Mt. San Antonio, Mt. San Jacinto and Mt. San Gorgonio), the tallest peaks in Southern California. Each of these peaks are over 10,000 feet above sea level. I like bicycling to the beach, power boating and riding ATVs in the mountains and deserts. It's a great way to enjoy the beauty of our Heavenly Father's creations. I worked as a police officer in Southern California for nearly 30 years. It was an exciting career that developed in me an appreciation for the Lord's commandments and how they keep us safe.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents, sister and I joined the church over 40 years ago. While vacationing in Northern Utah, my father became ill. The physician who treated him invited us to go to the Visitor's Center at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. Soon after, missionaries from the church taught us the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I will be forever grateful to the physician who made that simple invitation to our family! I have read the Book of Mormon many, many times. I know that it is true. Along with the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ and of his role as our Savior and Redeemer. The Book of Mormon is evidence that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Because of my belief in the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, I am better able to believe and exercise faith in all other Church teachings and doctrines. I invite you read the Book of Mormon yourself and to pray about its truthfulness.

How I live my faith

I served as a full-time missionary in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I spent two years teaching others about the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. My family spends an evening together every week during which we discuss the teachings of Jesus Christ. With my son, I visit 3 families each month and share a message from our church leaders with them. I have been a Sunday School teacher, and worked with the youth of Church. I served as an assistant scout master in Boy Scouts for over five years. I also served as the Bishop (lay leader of a local congregation) for over 5 years. Since June of 2012, I have served in the church as a "stake president." A stake is group of wards (or local congregations), each presided over by a bishop. As stake president, I am responsible to watch over and work with 9 separate wards and their leaders. I counsel with the Bishops, teach members their responsibilities and make visits into individual homes.
