Hi I'm Courtney

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love playing and watching sports, especially basketball and golf. I also love numbers. I'm studying accounting in college. Most of all, I love my wife and the way that living the gospel to the best of our abilities can bless us, and ultimately allow us to live together forever.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of the Church. Everyone in my family is active in the church. I "went through the motions" as a young man, as I relied on others' convictions that this is the true church, led by Jesus Christ. When I was 17, I thought a lot about what it would mean to me if this church was true. It would mean that Christ lived and performed the Atonement for everyone. Therefore, I could be forgiven my sins. If this is the true church, it would mean that we have a prophet today, being the Lord's mouthpiece. It would mean that I can live with my loved ones and with Heavenly Father forever. It would mean everything to me. I needed to somehow attain a testimony for myself. In the Book of Mormon, Moroni teaches the process. All are promised that if they read the Book of Mormon, ponder its teachings and God's love to His children throughout time, then ask God if it is true, with intent to act on the answer they receive, then by the power of the Holy Ghost, He will let them know that it's true. I had faith that God would answer my prayer- He had answered my prayers throughout my life. I knew that if He told me that the Book of Mormon is true, that meant Joseph Smith, its translator, was a true prophet. It would mean that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was the one true church. I followed the process. It took time. It was not a single event. I prayed for many days, acting on what I felt. I know that Heavenly Father told me through the power of the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true. I know the gospel Christ taught when he walked the earth has been restored to the earth through Joseph Smith. The power and authority to guide God's church was brought back. The living prophet today holds the fulness of this priesthood, and he is able to delegate some of the responsibilities it comes with throughout the church. I know that God and Christ live, and only through the name and power of Jesus Christ can we live forever with Them and our families.

How I live my faith

The testimony I have gained of this church has been, and forever will be, precious to me. It has led me to choose to serve a full time mission to Michigan, where for two years I was able to teach people the doctrines of the restored gospel. I was able to see peoples' lives change forever as they came to better understand the love God has for them. Today, I am glad to be able to teach the four-year-old Sunday School class with my wife in our congregation. We love watching gospel principles click for these young children as we talk about scripture stories together.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A testimony is a knowledge of the truth. Think about witnesses in a court trial. They testify of the things they saw and the things they know. A testimony of the church is a knowledge of its truthfulness through certain experiences. Missionaries encourage all people to gain their own testimony by reading and praying about the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

In the Gospel of John, chapter 7 verse 17 we read "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." I believe that two of the best ways to come to know God are following His commandments and praying to him. Show more Show less
