Hi I'm Dale

I'm a 40 year old father of 4. I'm a Systems Implementer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a married father of four children. I am a software systems implementer at a land development and home building company in Calgary, Alberta. I'm a pop-culture junkie but I also enjoy the outdoors. I love spending time with my family swimming, hiking, watching movies, listening to music and watching my kids play sports. I am a Calgary Flames fan.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church. But when it came time to serve a mission, I really had to decide for myself if this was the direction I wanted my life to go...it was time to either fish, or cut bait! I served a mission in Santa Rosa, California from 1989-1991. This was the hardest thing I had ever done and I would not trade the experience for the world! While I may not have a strong testimony of every little aspect of the church, I do know that Jesus Christ restored His gospel through the prophet Joseph Smith and that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Everything else just falls into place after these two truths.

How I live my faith

I am a counselor in the presidency of my ward's Elders Quorum (one of the men's organizations). In this position I help to organize our Home Teaching assignments and give the occasional lesson on Sunday. I enjoy the unity and camaraderie in the Quorum. I try to live my life the way I teach...living the principles of the gospel. My family has our food storage and we try to have a regular family home evening, although with teenagers it's difficult to schedule a time when all are home. We often have extra people in the home so we'll just invite them to participate in the blessing on the food or whatever else we're doing.

Are Mormons Christians?

I love this question. I think this question comes up because our understanding of who Christ is differs somewhat from most people. We believe that Christ, Heavenly Father and the Holy Ghost are three distinct and separate beings. Christ is the son of God and they, along with the Holy Ghost, serve the same purpose. With this believe, we do not believe in the idea of the Trinity - that God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost are one being. So, yes, we are Christians. We honor, serve and worship Jesus Christ. What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

What I love about our church services is that they are relatively casual. Since there is no paid ministry, we each contribute to the meetings and teachings. Every member has the opportunity, and responsibility, to speak in our Sacrament meetings. Everything about the church, including our Sunday meetings, is very family oriented. This makes for lively and engaging meetings and discussions. Visitors are definitely welcome to attend any of our meetings. Show more Show less
