Hi I'm Gwenda

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married for 27 years. I was a Navy wife for 11 of those years, filled with many challenges as we got to know each other. During the first 10 years neither of us went to church or were very religious. I think this may have added to the difficulty of those years. I was raised a Latter-day Saint, however I fell away from the church shortly after I graduated from high school. Through those years I filled my time with friends, family and volunteer work. But there came a time when I had a personal crisis and I was drawn back to the church. It started with an interest in my family history which brought me to the local family history center. There I made friends with those that served there and I was shortly called to serve in the family history center myself. Before long I was immersed in the gospel and introducing it to my husband (who wasn't a member of the church). Several years later, after a move across the country, my dear husband made the commitment to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of happiest days in my life. We love the gospel and continue to serve where needed.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a Mormon, however my parents didn't attend regularly. It was a challenge but my testimony took root in my youth. This has carried me through many challenges. I looked into other religions and never felt at home like I do in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here I learn who my Saviour is and the plan he has for me. I know that I am a daughter of God and that my elder brother, Jesus Christ, lives and he paid the ultimate price so that I might repent and return to live with my Heavenly Father. At a time when I felt lost and alone I found comfort as I discovered that I am never alone and Heavenly Father is aware of me and knows me as an individual. This knowledge has brought me to love the Scriptures and to learning more about the gospel. I am grateful to have the chance to serve in the church, thus bringing me closer to those I serve and to my Savior. Sharing those talents and skills I have been blessed with makes me feel so much a part of the church, bringing me closer to others and my testimony is strengthened. My eternal family also brings me hope and comfort. Knowing that we are eternally sealed together, through priesthood covenants made in the temple, lifts me as I work on uniting my ancestors through my family history.

How I live my faith

Striving to live a life of service, love and kindness is a constant challenge. However these are my goals. I'm so grateful for the atonement and the opportunity it gives me to pick myself up each time I fall short. My Savior, Jesus Christ, has made the ultimate sacrafice for me (and everyone) and this brings me peace and lifts me up. I serve with the Young Women (12-17) and enjoy their youth and purity. The responsiblity I feel teaching and guiding these girls can be overwhelming at times, however faith in my Heavenly Father and guidance from the Holy Ghost strengthens me. "...If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear. Doctrine & Covenants 38:30. We have been taught that we need to prepare ourselves for the unexpected. Self reliance and emergency preparedness is an interest my husband and I share. We are active with our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)training program. We find many opportunities to reach out and teach others the importance of and skills involved in caring for ourselves and our families, and find it very fulfilling. I still love family history and enjoy being involved in our local Genealogical Society. Here we help others get started or keep going on their search for their family. I have also become interested in the indexing program at FamilySearch.org. I am so grateful for the opportunity to index these records for others to use in their research, but I enjoy helping others become involved in this great service. I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoy sharing the teachings with others. I pray for opportunities and do my best to be an example of the life my Savior lived.
