Hi I'm Jeff

I'm a happily married husband, father of six, and software engineering manager. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being married to my wonderful wife. She gives me confidence and makes me want to be better. I love being a dad to our six talented children, a daughter and five sons. As a new grandpa, I am discovering the joys of connected generations. I am an Eagle scout in the Boy Scouts of America and enjoy being a volunteer scout leader. I don't find time for many hobbies, but I enjoy commuting to work on a motorcycle and try to achieve the highest gas mileage possible (currently up to over 90 miles per gallon). I graduated from BYU with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and have worked most of my career in hardware-related software development. I'm currently a Software Engineering manager at HP. I enjoy software development, problem-solving and debugging, mentoring, and being a sounding board for my engineers.

Why I am a Mormon

My wonderful parents faithfully taught us children the gospel of Jesus Christ. They provided examples of service to others and Christian living and made sure that we attended church each Sunday. Even though I was blessed with the opportunity to be raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, my faith was tested and I faced great challenges. I wore glasses since I was a toddler, and was teased quite a lot. I was sensitive, shy, and suffered from poor self-esteem. Making friends was very difficult for me. I was lonely. As a teenager, I had to know for myself if there really was a God and if he cared about me. While at a church summer youth retreat I knelt in prayer alone in my dorm room. I plead with my Father in Heaven to know if he really was there and if he knew me and cared about me. An overwhelming feeling of peace flooded into my body. I wept for joy as this indescribable calmness filled me and I knew then that Father in Heaven was real and I knew then that He knows me and loves me. I have come to know that feeling as the power of the Holy Ghost. Through that power I have come to know that Jesus is the Christ, my Redeemer and Savior. He forgives sin when we repent, and we are cleansed through His healing power. Through reading the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, and through pondering and praying about its messages I have come to know that it is true! This is a powerful book and has brought me closer to my Savior. I also know that Joseph Smith acted with authority as a prophet and special witness for Christ and reestablished His true church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I know that Christ leads His church today by a living prophet and apostles.

How I live my faith

I served a two year full-time mission in the Japan Sendai Mission. Many experiences there further strengthened my faith and testimony. I was privileged to see first hand how the light and power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ changes lives and improves people. My family and I attend church each Sunday. I enjoy serving as a counselor to the bishop in the lay leadership of our congregation. The bishop, his two counselors, the ward clerk, and the ward executive secretary meet early Sunday morning for leadership meetings where we discuss the needs of ward members and how we can help individuals and families. We follow established principles, procedures, and guidelines as taught by our church leaders who oversee us. It is amazing to see the work of the Lord progress as the Holy Ghost inspires us to arrive at His will for what we should do.
