Hi I'm Spencer

I love backpacking, bikes, books, college and being a Mormon!

About Me

I love to joke but I’m told I wouldn’t be a successful comedian so I’m attending college and studying social work instead. I love backpacking in the Uintah Mountains, Sierra Nevada’s and wilderness of Arizona. Books are cool, college can be cool and my family is pretty cool too.

Why I am a Mormon

I’m Mormon because I had loving parents who patiently taught and guided me until I was ready to find God for myself. I found him waiting to embrace me by reading the Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ. The reassurance that God lives and watches over his children wasn’t immediate but after reading daily from the Book of Mormon for several weeks, I read a verse written by one of his rescued children, Alma, promising me that if I let my desire to find God work in me, he would place his word in my heart. I kept reading and day-by-day God filled my life with peace, confidence and happiness. I know I am his son and child because of the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! I’m Mormon because Jesus Christ, through his teachings in the Book of Mormon, sought me when I was a stranger and brought me to safety.

How I live my faith

Shortly after my conversion, I served a full-time mission in Tempe, Arizona. There I met many wonderful people who were seeking, as I was, to invite God to have a greater role in their lives. When I was tuned to God’s still, small voice, or the voice of his spirit, I was blessed to serve and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I saw burdens lifted, hearts converted and lives changed. I returned in December 2008 and God continues to bless me with opportunities to live my faith. For several months, I was a friend and mentor to young people who were struggling to overcome drug addictions in the wilderness of Arizona. As we hiked and camped together, we shared our beliefs about God and I testified of Gods love and power to help them in their trials. Currently, I’m sharing my love for God by singing in a young adult Mormon choir at my college. Sorry if you sit next to me, I know it's a rough go sometimes. I’m also a brother of five younger siblings and I try to be an example to them.
