Hi I'm Amy

I'm a wife, a mother of two, a piano teacher, and a Disney nut. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife of an amazing husband and a busy mom of two little children - a 2 year old girl and a 7 month old boy- and I teach piano in the evenings. I also teach early music and movement education classes for toddlers and preschoolers once a week in the mornings. I've got a degree in Humanities: Music Emphasis. My days are filled with finding fun activities to do with my adorable kids and making my house a comfortable home. In what little free time I have, I like to hang out with my husband, sing and play the piano with him, read good books (fantasy, mystery, science fiction, all kinds), watch movies and TV, play card/board games, do Sudoku and crosswords, and play outside. In other seasons of my life I was very much into singing in choirs, being in musicals and plays, playing volleyball and softball, biking, hiking, camping, rock climbing, doing piano competitions, swing and country dancing, and getting straight A's. Math and music were my favorite subjects in school, one of my favorite jobs was working as a bank teller, and a little known fact is that I speak a fair amount of Spanish. I love anything Disney and you can usually find me singing Disney princess songs throughout the day. I can't wait to take my kids to Disneyland someday and chocolate is definitely my weakness (something I can already see I passed on to my daughter). I also love watching college football, especially my alma mater!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the testimony I have received of this restored gospel. I grew up a Latter-day Saint, but that's not entirely the reason I have become a faithful member. My parents were good people who taught me all about the gospel of Jesus Christ and showed me how to live it through their great examples. Even as a young child, I knew that Jesus loved me and that I was a child of God. I have never doubted that and many of the experiences I have had throughout my life have confirmed that fact. I vividly remember my baptism at the age of 8 and remember how warm and clean I felt that day. I knew that what I was doing was right, even if I didn't know everything yet. Throughout my teenage years, I had several experiences that strengthened my testimony. One of those included a challenge to read through the Book of Mormon and to underline every reference and time the name of the Savior Jesus Christ appeared with a scripture marking pencil. It was overwhelming the number of times it was there. I felt a strong witness to my heart that the Book of Mormon was true and that it testified of Christ. Another experience was when I chose to study Joseph Smith for a report at school. I learned so much about him and felt like I really came to know him. Again there was a strong witness to my heart that he was a true prophet of God and he really did help to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth again. I was also able as a youth to go on a reenactment of the trek that my pioneer ancestors made across the plains to the Salt Lake Valley. We stopped at a spot where many of those pioneers had died in the cold of winter. The feeling there was so sacred and I knew that these people were strong in the faith of Christ and that strengthened my testimony of the Church. I could go on and on about such experiences, as there were many.

How I live my faith

My current calling in my ward at church is that of Ward Music Chairman. I put together the music for our general church meeting, called Sacrament Meeting. I choose the hymns we sing and ask people to do musical numbers. I am in charge of training choristers, pianists, and others involved in the music for other meetings. Music is a big part of bringing a good feeling to the meetings, so I know what I do is important. I try my best to be Christlike in my daily life and try to engage in daily scripture study and prayer. I try to be as good as my parents were in teaching my family the gospel and hope that I can be as good an example to my children as they were to me.
