Hi I'm Shihong Chi

I came from Jilin province, China. I studied at UT Austin. Went to Boston for a while. Live in Houston.

About Me

I am Geophysicist in the oil and gas industry. I like rocks, and math. I am dad of three kids.

Why I am a Mormon

During 1996 to 1998, I prayed many many times, read the scriptures quite a few times, investigated the church for a few years before I joined the Church. When I prayed if I should join the Church, I really felt peace in my heart. I knew it was time! I joined the Church on March 7, 1998 in Austin Oak Hills Stake in Texas, while I was studying petroleum engineering at UT Austin. I was alone at that time. I said to the Lord, " I will do whatever you want me to do and leave everything else in thy hand." The Lord did bless me with a beautiful wife and later three wonderful children. Now I am the most happy man on the Earth. The Lord leads me in my school, my work and my family. I have been blessed with wonderful opportunities at MIT as a postdoc and a career in the oil and gas industry. The gospel keeps me honest while dealing with work and all men. The Church is my home wherever I go. I have been to many states in business, and I can always find a chapel or temple to go to visit and to fellowship with my brothers and sisters in the Church, who have provided me great examples for me to learn from.

How I live my faith

I love my family and they are my happiness. We have family scripture study, prayer and family home evening together. We bike, walk and play together. We help each other. We go to church together on Sunday. My kids love primary and learn a lot there.  My wife and I enjoy Sunday school lessons from the New Testament. Jesus is really a great, profound teacher. I truly appreciate his atonement and I know it is true. Recently, when I was visiting the San Diego temple, I received a profound impression that the Lord indeed died on the cross for us. More importantly, He is arisen! I know I can be with Him after my journey on the Earth. I like to camp out, do service project or help a family move with other brothers in the Church together.
